Hi Guys,

I'm getting ready for a 2K point tournament this Fall. I've played hundreds of games of 40K in 4th edition, but I've been out of the loop for a while and I have yet to play a single game of 5th Edition 40K. I have put together this list based on some internet research and advice from local players, but I really need some feed back from the professionals.

Here we go...

Rune Priest w/ power armor (110 points)
chooser of the slain
living lightning, jaws of the world wolf

Wolf Priest w/ terminator armor (120 points)
Storm Bolter, Crozius
(the Wolf Priest will lead the WG terminators)

4 x Wolf Guard Terminators (197 points)
one with pair of Wolf Claws
one with Power Fist and Storm Bolter
one with Power Weapon and Storm Bolter
one with Power Weapon and Heavy Flamer
Drop Pod

5 x Wolf Scouts (110 points)
Meltabombs,
Meltagun

9 Grey Hunters (273 points)
Power weapon,
Wolf Standard,
Meltagun,
Mark of the Wulfen
1 WG Pack Leader with Combi-Melta and Power Fist
Rhino with Extra Armor

9 Grey Hunters (273 points)
Power weapon,
Wolf Standard,
Meltagun,
Mark of the Wulfen
1 WG Pack Leader with Combi-Melta and Power Fist
Rhino with Extra Armor

9 Grey Hunters (273 points)
Power weapon,
Wolf Standard,
Meltagun,
Mark of the Wulfen
1 WG Pack Leader with Combi-Melta and Power Fist
Rhino with Extra Armor

6 Long Fangs (245 points)
2 Lascannons
3 Missile Launchers
Razorback
Lascannon and TL Plasmagun

6 Long Fangs (230 points)
2 Plasma cannons
3 Heavy Bolters
Razorback
Lascannon and TL Plasmagun

6 Long Fangs (155 points)
1 Lascannon
4 Missile Launchers

Total = 1986 Points

Remarks :

(1) I can't really afford the $ to buy more missile launcher bits, so even though I know it would be nice to have 15 long fangs with missile launchers - it aint gonna happen. I have 7 with missile launchers - that's it.

(2) I'm flexible on the load out for the Terminators, and I'd really appreciate comments on that.

(3) HQ's : Every one has told me that the RP is mandatory, but I don't really know where to put this guy. Advice? Also...Wolf Pries Terminator, or WG Battle Leader + wargear?

(4) My WG pack leaders all have magnetized arms, so any advice on their loadouts would be easy to implement.

so your on the right track, but you could make things a little more cost effective.

1. not being able to make your long fangs have all ML is gonna hurt. i no not having the $ to buy bits sucks, but your gonna have a hard time taking armor out with out them. heavy bolters airn't gonna cut it. so if you can invest in those at some point, DO.

2. The Rune priest should go in a rhino with one of you GH units. he takes a little getting use to,do not over be aggresive with him, he's not a fighter. He's your support character. you have the right powers. just use them wisely and dont leave him in the open.

3. you cansave points and take the power weapon off the GH units. its a waste, MothW is fine, plus the fist is enough.

4. get rid of the extra armor on the rhinos, its a waste.

5.Wolf scouts aren't that great. i would take a LS or two with a MM/HF combo instead.

6. the Wolf priest/ WG termies isn't that bad actually. but i would switch the HF out for a CML instead. then you can pop stuff if you land off course.

7. if you rework the units you can take an extra RB for the LF,plus the TLLC is better then the Las/Plas version.

8. try out Arjak, he's a beast and a lot of people dont expect him. he's a fun character.

well there you.

Thanks for that!

I may take your advice on the Land Speeder MM/HF as I've already built two of them.

As for the Pwr weapons in the GH packs and the Las/Plas Razorbacks : I guess I'm expecting to encounter lots of SM armies. So the PW is there to cut down 3+ armor saves. I don't know about 5th ed, but in 4th ed, power weapons were obligatory for an assaulty army.

Likewise, the Las/Plas could shoot at infantry with three AP2 shots (for example, Terminators) or shoot one vehicle with the LC. But the TL LC can only kill one model no matter what.

That's why I made that choice. But I'd like to know why you say the TL LC is better so I could consider it.

Get 3 ml bits and make 2 squads of long fangs with 5 ml's in each. If you really want a 3rd squad, then make the 3rd squad 3lc's and 2 pc's.

I don't like the wg termie/drop pod/wolf priest unit. Way to many points. Take rifleman dreads or speeders w/tml/hb.

Dump the MoW and the power swords in the GH squads. Standards are all you really need in full 10 man GH squads.

Try taking a wg with a pf for the scouts. Otherwise, I would dump them and invest in more gh's.

well i say TLLC over Las/PLas cause of one, lack of high Stn weapons you have and two the re-rol is great. you can keep the RB in the back field and fire away, with the plas, your moving it around trying to get shoots off. put it where it has good LOS and fire away. its only armor 11, so it can go quick.

i never run a PW in my GH units, just a fist and MotW. remeber its rending so if you roll 6's it acts like a power weapon. . plus re roling 1's in combat is awesome. if your going against marines, especially vanilla, SW win damn near every time in combat. but you can't go charging in all crazy though. SW take some pations to play. some people say there not really a "assault" army. i dont really agree with that. there pretty assaulty, but you should knock off some of the enemies numbers first, or keep rapid firing and just counter-charge.

amother good threat is a logan, arjack, and LF with MM combo. the LF die pretty quick but Logan and Arjacl OWN!! I've played games were Arjack killed Drago by himself!. Swamlord? F&*% it he's dead too! One time i killed 5 Blood crushers in one round of combat. if your looking a big threat there what you want. Plus logan can give the unit PE just like a WP. the amount of attacks are devestating

With the RP powers you've chosen, I'd consider putting him with a Long Fangs pack. That way he'll stay out of most of the fighting, and can blast away with Living Lightning. Jaws is great against Necrons, Tau and Orks, horrid against both flavors of Eldar, and decent against most other armies.
