I'm looking to start a Death Guard army pretty soon (Typhus is in the mail along with a box of CSM ) and I was reading through the codex and saw that Death Guard isn't allowed to take any Chaos marines or bikers. Bikers I can live without, but how am I supposed to have an army without any infantry? Would it be ok to just convert my CSM's to Plague Marines? Or is that a given? What about raptor squads? As you can see I'm a little confused as to how Chaos works, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. If you feel like helping a bit more, I could also use some advice on a fun 750pt list to run with.

Sounds like you've got the old codex. In that codex a unit of Death Guard was a unit of Chaos Space Marines with the Mark of Nurgle. So obviously for a Death Guard army you couldn't have units that weren't members of the Death Guard.

A better idea though would be to go buy the new codex, or just wait a bit as supposedly a newer codex is due in or around September.
EDIT: October according to the rumour roundup.

I think you may be right about having the wrong codex. I checked GW's site and the cover is different and everything. Thats what I get for trusting e-bay . Lesson learned I suppose. Thank you for replying Chrysis.

Not a problem. The newer codex is a lot less confusing to use, as there aren't special rules for a "Death Guard" army over a "Thousand Sons" army. Of course, having said that, the only actual members of the "Death Guard" you can field are basic power armour infantry and Typhus.

Overall I'd just recommend waiting. Without knowing exactly what the new codex will bring it's hard to recommend things to buy. Plague Marines probably aren't a bad thing to buy, but it's possible they'll get a new plastic kit with the new codex.

As for 750 points lists, Typhus himself is roughly a third of that. You could then fit two squads of Plague Marines, but I don't think they'd be very big and they'd almost certainly be walking. And even if they aren't, Typhus would have to walk as you won't be able to fit a Land Raider in.

The newer codex is also dull as dishwater, compared to the old codex. While the old codex had its flaws (although some chaos players would try to convince you it was perfect, it really, really wasnt!) it had a lot of options you just dont get anymore.

There may be a newer book out this year, or there may not. It's anybody's guess!
