I like the Cygor model, however I don't like the cost or the WS. I understand that the WS2 was to cripple this guy against normal troops and he gets rerolls against magical stuff, but most of your magic item carriers are going to be WS5 or better meaning the reroll really isn't that great because its still a 5+ to hit. Then he is only T5 with no armor or ward so I don't think he survives much either. I think GW neutered him to much due to fluff. Anyhow I would like to play with one because a mobile no min range stone thrower sounds cool, but I don't think he will be effective at anything but dying.

Overall I'm going to have to go with 'no'. I tried one in a game the other day, and while he was able to splat a TK heirophant in a unit of tomb guard, I won't even begin to expect that on a regular basis; it's a 1in6 for the Heiro to fail that LOS!.

While having a stone thrower is nice, it's not 275 points nice. His anti-mage aura is also rather 'meh' at best, since any wizard near a BSB is going to have a great chance of passing that Ld test. You can try to team that with a GBS reducing his Ld by 3 with death magic, but it's still not something I'd count on, not something worth 275 points. :-\

Keep in mind that he also gets his reroll against models with a Ward save, so he doesn't necessarily have to run up against characters (and shouldn't run up against non-wizard characters!).

Against an army with any sort of cannon, he's paste plain and simple. T5 with no armor or ward save = cannonball + face. His MR2 is almost pointless, almost.

All that said, it's nice to have something to do during the shooting phase. The one I used the other night survived, mostly because I presented more important threats and there were no cannons on the board. Against TK or VC armies who don't usually run a BSB but depend on magic, I could see his anti-magic aura being a little more useful every now and then.

So, worht 275 points? Most of the time, no. Occassionally fun to field anyway, I'd say yes. I'm still thinking of running 2, along with a Hunting Spear Wargor. Fake artillery, ho!

I think the Cygor's only problem is it's cost. There is no reason he should be anywhere near 275 points. 175 seems more like it to me. I too love the model though and have one that I use occasionally. The MR2 comes in handy against armies that don't have war machines or much shooting and try to magic missile him down, and the stone thrower is nice to have. However, he's mostly just there for fun like all the Beastmen rares.

If you really want a big nasty my personal favourite is the humble Giant. His random attacks can actually be quite devastating (particularly against other monsters).
