Do you put your Land Raider sponsons in front of the exit hatches or behind? No I am not asking how to put the tank together just curious what other people do because I was thinking having the exit hatches open up to find the barrel of a Lascannon in your face might not be the best idea. Especially if by some strange happening the Lascannon fires as you exit. Covering fire does not do much good if the guns cannot fire because troops are in the way.

I can just picture the terminator leading the squad out the hatch getting blasted by a Lascannon.

Again just curious how everyone builds theirs and if anyone has ever taken this into consideration.

I put mine behind the hatch because on the standard and crusader because that is the "proper" way

on redeemers the sponsons go in front for obvious reasons.

however i almost always use the front for my disembark because usually i'm headed into assault.

I always put LR weapons on the front hatch,
I see it as a good way for any marines jumping
out of the side to get a little cover from incoming fire.

Although it has been said that its modeling for advantage
as you get about 2 inches more range from the guns up front

I never even considered the extra range advantage. I always put mine at the back but after thinking about it I decided the front might be better and makes more sense in terms of "if I were a real life space marine would I want to get out in front of blazing guns or behind them?" type of thing. The added bonus of the extra range however is another good reason! Bravo for pointing that out!

As long as you aren't a tool and put them both on the same side you should be fine.

The picture in the assembly instructions has them on the front, but the picture on the box has them on the back. I'd say it's 100% up to you and NOT modeling for advantage.

On the back, so I can put pithy warning signs on the front ones.

Like:
"In the Emperor's name thou shalt duck."
"Danger: Do not stand in front of laser cannons".

Both my Landraiders were purchased secondhand, and both of them have the weapons mount behind the exit hatch. When I buy and assemble my third one, I am going to mount the weapons up front.

The box itself has them in front (at least on the old Chaos one), and it does suit practicality to have them that way. The thing's also meant to look like a Mk1 anyhow, so I guess having them up from its the aethestic more.

I wouldnt say its modelling advantage.

After all, tons of vehicle hulls are further infront than the guns ( modelling advantage would be cannons that protrude
beyond the hull itself right? )

The only variant where it really matters is the redeemer because of the placement of the flamer templates. For the other two it comes down to aesthetics IMO.

I use a Redeemer's and the guns go in front for obvious reasons, yet on a crusader say, your guys can get out in cover or your guns can fire through the squad. IMO there aren't really any pros because if you want to assault just turn the land raider sideways.

The firing point is from the tip of the gun though so it could be an advantage.

I actually just reclaimed my very first Land Raider crusader I bought like ten or twelve years ago, and spent an hour or so cutting the sponsons and hatches free because I put the guns on the rear doors.

Front hatches. The only correct answer. Putting them on the back when the tank is a personnel carrier is silly, lol.
