So in the past few weeks at my local GW killteam matches have been the way to play games due to an upcoming tournament.
I bought myself a pack of x10 grey hunters space wolves and painted them up quite quickly (compared to how i normally go about my work ) despite knowing i wouldnt be able to go in on the day and enter in the tournament, it's been a blast however i wanted to learn how to paint them without ruining the models with too many coats so i used some spare models to test color schemes, which leads me too my fiction part of the story, i painted some orks' arms up in a dark grey/blue color scheme and instantly fell in love with it, now when i discussed with my local GW store they said i could not in all good sense have a band of orks on fenris as no space marine would allow an ork to reside on their homeworld....that got me to thinking and this is what i came up with: (PLEASE C&C)

On fenris, homeworld of the space wolves lives a small band of orks known as the iceberg copperheads (or in orkie "Iceburg coppaheadz") due to the nature of the planet and the orks physiology they never pose much of a threat, when killed they can only release a small amount of spores and even then only 1 will ever grow into a fungi which will one day be an ork.
They are not like most other orks, due to the nature of the planet's rotation and it going without sun for so much of a year the orks slowly changed the tone of their skin, In the warm part of the year they are least active and actively seek out copper ore which they so desperately seek ( noone really knows why this is)
Their population is no larger than a small force of orks estimated at roughly 10-30 with one ork always a little larger claiming leadership as the boss ("DA BOSS"). Due to the size of their warband the space wolves never feel threatened by them and for that reason only retaliate when they strike, of the hundreds of years they have been known to reside on fenris none have ever come close to killing even one marine.

This is the first time ive attempted in making my own faction of any army in 40k and ive only been into the hobby since August/September of last year (2011)

= 1000 point army
= 1500 Pt
= 1000
= 500
= 300

The problems with Orks is that unless you kill them all and burn the bodies they are very likely to come back again and again... saying that only 1 will come back doesn't make sense according to what we know of their biology.
Space Wolves, like many SM chapters, fight Orks and know how to stop them spreading.
They'd likely kill them and burn the bodies.
If you want an ork warband (or kommando band) then from an ice planet then just say they're from an ice planet...

An ice planet doesnt stop an ork from spreadin no matter how fierce it is. If they can survive long enough without bein discovered then it doesnt matter what chapter an exterminatus is the only way to go, have to remeber that they also send out spores while they are alive just not as many as when they are dead.

orkz are da best!!!

Its a cool idea. Being a Wolf player myself, i think it add some cool "did you know" facts to the information on Fenris.

If you want to make it more plausible then i would suggest that along with the cold mitigating the spore growth, you could make it that they dont produce spores at all. Like a biological mutation. That would stop the people wining about that. You could also say that their population is held low by not only the occasional SW run in and weather but also the brutal wildlife of the planet itself.

40k is what you make it!

It's not always cold however...

Also an easy fix. Make their location a remote portion of Fenris. The weather there is a constant and brutally bitter cold.

None of it is like that...
The only truly stable part of Fenris is occupied by a Space Marine chapter...

Hey I'm fine with it but IMO it should follow established fluff unless there's no other way to do it.
