Subject: Request for GW on new Editions, Rules, Codices et al.

It's a simple request really, and I'm pissed that I even have to ask.
Do you think it's asking too much from GW for them to put "6th Edition" on the next friggin' rulebook somewhere? Preferably right on the front cover in big letters. And the same with all of their codices.
I've got like 3 Space Marine codices, 2 Space Wolf codices, a couple of chaos codices, Orks and Eldar too.
I can't tell which one is the most current just by the cover art.
For Rulebooks, I've got 3rd Ed, 4th Ed, 5th Ed and even a WH40K Rouge Trader book and not one of them say's, "Hey dude, this is 3rd Edition. You need to look in that otha mutha over there."

I'll take your word for that, but still you shouldn't have to go online and hunt for a picture of the book.. Like every other book, it should have publisher, ISBN, copyright etc.
But actually I don't care about those things. I just want it to say
"Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition"
on the front and
"Codex Space Marines Revision X" or "Revised 2012"
Something that will let everyone in the Galaxy know which codex / rule set is most current.

That's what I have a label maker for. The D&D 3rd/3.5 books are this same way though. It was frustrating to figure out where the difference was sometimes.

Is there a good reason why GW does this? Or is it - as I expect - just to trick people into buying overstock of out of date rules.

Well, how about you take all the old books and put them somewhere else? That should solve your issue.

I agree that in practice it's rather easy to figure out, but in principle it's still poor form. They could at least put what rules edition it is on the title page or at the top of the table of contents or something if not on the cover itself.
It's almost like if Wizards can get away with it, then GW can as well...

Of course! But the point is, it shouldn't be an issue at all. As a guy who reads and writes a lot of engineering specs, I know it's common practice (for engineers anyway) to say which procedures supercede which. Usually it's done with a revision number. That's all I'm asking for and it isn't much. Write the flippin revision number on the book somewhere. That would take up like 1/2 a square inch.
In any case, really it's not for me, but for the poor noob who's trying to buy a codex on ebay or something. How much would it suck to buy all of those mini's for an army list you built to an obsolete codex?

I think this is a bit of a stretch of the imagination, even for GW.
GW doesn't sell out of date rules themselves, they'd only be on Ebay or 3rd party retailers or whatnot, therefore GW would surely not make any profit from them.
