Why would they? They're a codex chapter that doesn't require anything different whatsoever.

Nope, cause the only thing that makes them diffrent from the Ultramarines is black skin and making pretty weapons and armor.

As if there aren't too many SM codices already? No they wont ever make one.

Even so, there's already a "Green Marines" army with their own codex, and that would cause some confusion among new players or those unfamiliar with Marine chapters.

I would love to see a series of mini-dexes for the other chapters. Something more than the special character upgrade status they have in the Marine Codex right now. They could be bundled in one book or released in White Dwarf articles.

Instead it would tell you a bit about the chapter, tell you what units from standard codex were allowed, what units weren't, what special gear or rules the chapter had, a couple of special characters and maybe a signature unit.

Tau and Space Wolves since 5th Edition.

This thread can't repel firepower of that magnitude!

No, it will never happen.

And as a Sallies fan myself, I hope it never does.

Someone in a similar thread pointed out it would devolve into Drakeknights on LavaDrake mounts wearing Drakescale cloaks and wielding Dragon hammers and draconis pattern bolters. It would be silly and ruin it for me.

Firing new drake bolt rounds, filled with lava, count as poison 4+ and ignore all armour.

Didn't they use to have different stats though? If anything joining up with the rest of the marines was an upgrade for them.

They lost 1 I and had limited access to some units, but had some other things that marines didn't. I think. Not 100% on the last bit, I may be confusing different rule sets.

Below is a general rundown of the Armageddon list.

Spoiler:
Salamanders were all I3 and never took All On Your Own tests. They still cost the same per model as a regular Marine. Salamanders could also opt for an additional game turn.

Master Crafted weapons were cheaper (10pts) and cheaper artificer armour was available to non-independant characters, as well as signums on any character. Reinforced Ceramite was a Salamander only vehicle upgrade that negated melta effects, and the Salamander Mantle was a Salamanders only wargear item that worked like an Adamantine mantle.

Fast Attack choices were all 0-1 due to not being able to train well with them on Nocturne with its high gravity and ever changing land masses.

They gained the ability to take a second flamer in Tactical Squads instead of a heavy weapon. and the ability to take a flamer in an assault squad. Salamanders Terminator squads were mixed Tactical and Assault, so you could have a mix of storm bolters, lightning claws and thunder hammers, but could not take an assault cannon. Predator Destructors could have heavy flamer sponsons, and Salamander Librarians had a special psychic power. Chaplains could take thunder hammers for free.

Basically, small changes to the regular codex list allowing more master crafted weapons, more artificer armour, signums everywhere, a few unique upgrades, less fast attack and flamers splinkled through a few more selections. Not enough to warrant a whole codex. Though I'm sure GW could if they really wanted to - drake cavalry, drake missiles, drake talons, the codex writes itself, really.

Enough of the "drake/dragon" titles. I am so sick of "wolf/blood" this and that. So, a "blood fist" is the same as a DCCW, got it.

I would like to see a seperate codex for different chapters, sort of how they did "catachans" a long time ago. But, I doubt GW would go that route.

First chaos needs some legion codexs.

Than Eldar. (Craftworlds)

Than Orks. (Da Klans)

Than Necrons (The empires)

Than Tau (Kroot codex, Vespid Codex, Farsight, Demiurg)

Than Imperial Guard (Imperial regiments!)

Than Dark Eldar (Speed cults, Gladiator cults, Kabals)

Than Chaos Daemons (One for each god, and one for the Dark Mechanics)

Than Tyranids. (Different Hives)

Than Sisters of Battle (Our Martyred Lady, Order of the bloody rose etc)

Than we can have more space marine codex's.

They won't go the mini codex route again, because they don't want you to need additional books to use your codex. Catachans was a suppliment to the IG book. Armageddon was a suppliment to the Ork, Space Mariens and IG books. You needed the 'base' codex to use the mini codex.

Now they want codices to be standalone. So the years of the mini codex adding a bit of variety to a larger codex are gone.

So, considering that, I'd really rather they didn't do any new chapters. No other chapters need a whole book, and a new Space Marine codex will simply put more time between other armies getting an update.

No more new codexes until they can regularly maintain the ones they have now.

I like Salamanders the way they are now, actually. I really enjoy the way Codex: Space Marines handled the different chapters idea. I think choosing a signature commander to remake your whole army was a great concept, and I hope they carry it over into other Codexes with greater frequency.

I wouldn't mind seeing a WD codex as it very unlikely that they would make standalone codex for them. It might make the magazine worth buying if there were regular updates for all armies instead of being a catalogue you pay 10 bucks for.

I just wish they'd do it by making it an upgrade for the sorely lacking captain and chapter master entries. Tying it to special characters sells those models, but it's dumb in practice. Putting chapter tactics as upgrades to captains and chapter masters would gave a reason to take them over chaplains and librarians.
