I don't personally Have A DreadKnight but i have fought them (mostly in Apoc Scale ) But i find myself consistantly forceing more Plasma Fire on them then i really want to . ( i play IG = Plasma fire = big deal ) those particular weapons i found are more of a pain in the ass when in comes to me having to have my Chimeras tackle them with plasma vets .....

The Twilight Zone

Having played against them, I find the greatsword+incinerator+ teleporter to be the most dangerous combination I run up against. Then again I play all GEQ so flame cannons are horrifying to me. I am sure the psycannon is also just fine, but I have never fought against one with a psycannon.

Basically the same thread from last week. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/450227.page#4303886

Long story short, the teleporter is almost a must-have. After that, it's a toss-up between keeping them cheap and making them more effective.

My personal preference is Teleporter, Incinerator, Sword.

Teleporter - as above
Incinerator - when combined with a shunt, means you can pretty much place a S6 AP4 template anywhere on the board.
Sword - statistically always makes the DK more effective than the extra attack gained by having the matched pair of fists. WS and T of the enemy can change it from 'a little better' to 'much better'.

260 points is a lot, however, and it will become a fire magnet for your opponents entire army. DKs also die to pretty much any dedicated assault unit (especially with PW/PF) so don't be surprised if you get eaten by the green tide.

Now a Purifier Dreadknight...

Probably work

I'm a fan of teleporter+incinerator. The sword is nice, but kind of making an expensive model even more so.

Oh, and one is none, two is one, three is spam.

That's the way I field my DK's, with teleporter and heavy incinerator.

Notice that 2 fists provide +1 A.

An HQ with grand strategy is a perfect leader for an army including this kind of DK's, because with the scout ability DK's could either outflank or be in the opponent's face in turn 1 (using a scout move).

If you have enough points, take a GSword---but 2 fists are enough for me.

Don't worry, Draigo will protect you guys!

Luide wrote:Sword is always better than dual fists. Only exception to this is when fighting T4 or less daemons, then dual fists are 14% better.

How much better sword is depends on:
1) Do you get charge or not. Sword gains efficiency when charging.
2) WS of opponent. Sword gains efficiency when fighting targets with WS5 or more
3) Toughness of opponent. Sword gains efficiency when fighting targets with T5+

Worst case scenario: No charge, Opponent is WS4- and T4-. Sword is 17% better. With charge it goes to 24%.
Best case scenario (realistic): Charge, Opponent WS5+ and T6. Sword is 80% better.
Theoretical best case scenario: Charge, Opponent WS5+ and T8. Sword is 120% better.
Food for thought.

FYI, those numbers are without hammerhand, add 1 to T in all numbers to get HH.

Sword is also hugely better against vehicles. If vehicle is moving at all, sword is better than hammer.

Personally, I use Teleporter + Incinerator + Sword, but if tight on points, sword is obviously first to go.

Dont forget, you cannot use two of the same weapon on the DK.

I run two in my lists. I run a hammer, teleporter, and heavy psycannon, gatling psilencer

Automatically Appended Next Post:
since the gatling psilencer, heavy psycannon is shooty, I just let my libby summon him if I want him closer to the action

Well, I'd keep the upgrades to a bare minimum - teleporter plus heavy incinerator are fine. But the rest?

As Luide said, if you're strapped for points, the sword and then the gun are the first and second things to go.

Hammer is lackluster (imo) and the other guns are a waste of points. You can do quite well with a Teleport/Incinerator DK. Or even just a teleport DK but I personally think you're reducing his threat level too much at that point.

The S6 AP4 template at 12" is just too useful to lose; kills anything without a 3+sv (usually on a 2+), IDs guardsmen/eldar and threatens sneaky, backfield models/HQs. I love it.
