Does anyone know a good way for making stencils? I am thinking of painting angel wings and the like on my Blood Falcon as well as my next project my Elysians.

I make a lot of stencils for use with air brushing.
I use a low-tac Vinyl (also known as Frisket film). It's transparent and sticks to most things. Just tape a design to it, cut it out and you have a stencil (well, a disposable stencil, they're only good for one use).

Are you painting by brush or airbrush? Either method could make use of masking tape, frisket, etched brass negatives, styrene or acetate sheet, or thicker self-adhesive vinyl, but application via airbrush is far smoother and easier. When painting by brush, you pretty much have to stipple your design with thick, dry paint, otherwise it's going to bleed under your stencil. If you're using a brush, I'd recommend using a stencil to pencil on your design and then paint it freehand, if I used a stencil, at all.

I go overboard when I make stencils:

Wax paper, layered with painters masking tape (overlapping layers) on the "no-stick" side.
Print onto masking tape side, cut out stencil with x-acto, stick to surface, paint.

You could just print out what you want on paper, and transfer that to another medium, but if you plan on brush-painting with these stencils, I would go with the frisket mentioned previously or painters masking tape.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Sweet thank you. Since I have not gotten an airbrush yet it will be by brush.

Stencils and brushes are not as good as stencils and sprays.

You might like to look at transfer printing paper as an alternative.

This is true which is why I am considering army painter sprays. Or using the stencils to outline then free handing the rest. As for printing, with the size I am looking at (stormrave,, land raider, rhino hull size) it would be difficult. Not impossible just difficult.
