Seems appropriate (in an odd way) to post this now, given 38 Studios' death recently.
So is this game worth getting? Can anyone tell me what it's like, gameplay and story-wise?

"Quite jolly, what about you?"

I suppose the surprise can be spoiled, but still, nobody is paying for the surprise.

It's been a while, but I recall it being quite a fun game. I'm not entirely sure what the story is about (basically everything is tied to fate and destiny and because you were brought back from the dead, you're completely free from both) but the gameplay is a lot like God of War or Darksiders. The combat is all hack and slash, with dodging and special abilities, and the leveling system is, I believe, quite unique. Essentially every level you get a few points, and you spend them on one of the three RPG stereotypes - warrior, mage, and rogue. It allows for a fantastic amount of customization, so you can play the game in any combination of the three.

Honestly, it's a pretty fun game. The combat is addictive, and I believe the official speedrun of the game as played by the developers was 200 hours with all sidequests completed. It's a really fun game, and it's such a shame that 38 went under.

I played a demo of it on the 360 and felt it resembled Fable a little bit. I plan to get a copy when it gets marked down or when I finish more of the other games I'm playing (the former is more likely to happen).

I loved and it was way more fun then Skyrim. It actually had a combat system.

I've read that the story was quite bland though and that the quests were 'go here, kill this' or 'fetch this'.

It's a single player MMO with a good combat system. That about sums it up.

True, but the quest system was rather lack luster. That said, I enjoyed it a lot.

Oh, one tip if you do get it. Play on hard. This game is piss easy.

Unless you're one of those types that doesn't nkow how to dodge or can't see when an enemy is telegraphing their attacks...

Probably because it started life as an MMO and evolved into a single player game. Some of that still carried over I imagine.

This sums up my feelings for the game really, althou I had quite alot of fun with it. The combat system alone is worth the price I think.

I tried it out briefly.

It's still on my long list of "Videogames to play if I ever find myself locked in my house for 6 months straight".

But, it seems like a very long game with a ton of filler. I have a hard time putting games down until I finish everything, so I don't really want to get started with this one.

Several reasons made KoA: Reckoning one of my favorite games.

- Interesting hack 'n slash combat system with tons of options and customizations. Making hybrid classes and combining abilities.
- Doing awesome stuff without waiting for level that-high-or-something.
- Awesome enemies and feeling to engage in the fight, not avoiding it.
- The world of Reckoning feels more lively.

It's sad that the studio closed down due to the debts. Especially when you know that the game was well received in both sales and public opinion.
I really hope the creators can find a new job or start a new development team and create a spiritual successor. I even hope that other developers learn about the uniqueness of Reckoning.
