Why does everybody love them so much? I never like them and they perform poorly for me. In my experience they either die quickly or never injure anything. So why does everyone seem to adore them? What am I missing?

They are fast, and have decent, twin linked firepower that's as strong as most anything in the codex.

Being so zippy it's easy to zoom around for side and rear armour shots, which actually might hit due to the twin-linked.

I run mine as singletons, so the squadron rules don't apply. Most folk don't find an evil go-kart too threatening, and ignore it in favour of the battlewagon nearby. I've killed many vehilces that made the mistake of ignoring buggies over the years.

They are low enough to gain cover from grots, but the gun is high enough to shoot over them with easy, and buggies (especially single ones) are very easy to hide or gain cover with.

Also, and most importantly, they are dirt cheap for what you get, and can shrug off most small arms fire (barring massive quantities or especially powerful guns (Tau rifles for example) ).

Not everyone finds them to be their thing. I like them, but i also use Deffkoptas and Stormboyz in my lists just as readily.

I use a Trukk heavy army, and the more AV10 vehicles on the table the better. In a list of 1500 pts you can easily squize 8 Trukks and 6 Buggies, which is too many vehicles for almost any enemy to handle!

Well I see how that could work but with so few shots and such limited versatility all they ever seem to do is be a waste of points and more importantly a fast attack slot which is arguably the best in the ork codex(excluding boys of course) and I feel like it is so better spent with deffkoptas or warbikes. Now I can see the tactics behind them but I feel other things do the job better. I simply do not understand why some people swear by them. And btw I love your signature.

All of the above plus they are cheap from a points perspective.

I run nine in my 1500pt. "speed freaks" list and they always are useful for me.

Your mileage/meta may vary...

Each to their own

One guy i know never leaves home without Flash Gitz in a Looted Wagon, and he does OK with them..

A lot of the Ork dex is personal choice. Near any of the units in the dex are viable, with an army built to support them, so if you prefer one unit over another, don't sweat it

And thanks RAW arguments over the possible meanings of the word 'and' vex me, I'd rather just dice off and play the game
