Hey guys,
This is probably pretty basic but I can't seem to find anything in the Necron 5th Ed that says Crypteks are actual psykers. Does this mean a perils test isn't required and therefore not affected by enemy attacks (like a forced perils test on 3D6)?
Plus, if they ARE actual psykers (I'd love to know the page it says this), does every ability require the test? Chrometron? Glaze of Flame? That just doesn't seem right..

He presumably did... hence the comment about not being able to find anything that says they are psykers. I would recommend dialing the hostility down a few notches.

I can't see anywhere in the rules that would imply that Cryptek wargear is psychic equipment. Reading the Codex even once would make this clear.

I think it does say somewhere in the dex that crypteks are the necrons equivalent of psykers. Could be what mixed him up.

Hi guys
Just wondering if you can help me out. Are crypteks actually hedgehogs? I can't find anywhere in the codex that says they aren't. I just need to clarify before I feed them a saucer of bread and milk.
Cheers!

Based on the choice of words in the OP, I suspect it was actually someone else asserting that they needed the test. I think the OP wanted clarification.
I suspect the OP might have been playing against TG

wow, peopel need to chill out, seriously.
No Crypteks are not Psykers and, unless the codex states otherwise, they do not need to roll to use any of their snazzy abilities (a fact my IG playing friend constatntly tries to pull me up on..

"Nope"

Agreed. The internet raeg has reached Maddoxian proportions!
Although in my experience, there seem to be far more Necron players who don't know how their stuff works than those that do. As such I find I have to watch them more carefully than a SM or IG player.
It's probably mostly because it's a new codex and there are quite a few younger players at my FLGS.

It does, but shortly after that it mentions how they employ advanced technology instead of psychic powers to achieve the same results.

For what it's worth, Codex Tyranids says something similar, with Nid psykers drawing their power from the Hive Mind rather than the Warp... but they still take psychic tests.
Frankly, I don't think this is as silly a question as some people have been making out. It's perfectly understandable for someone to wonder if they maybe just missed the part that says that the Cryptek actually follows the Psyker rules.

They aren't psykers. But they are like them but they use science? Never understood that line in the codex.

Since 2nd edition the necrons have always been technomagical. Their science is high enough that it's basically magic. Now magic counts as psychic in 40k, so isn't that confusing.

I think it's meant to be a tip of the hat (of sorts) to Arthur C. Clarke:
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
