Hello everyone!

My question to you all is what do we think is the best TWC loadout? Which is the most cost effective? I use a unit of 3 with storm shields and and a thunder hammer and they work really well but they cost 270 points to run. Let me know if you use them or do you think there are better fast attack choices in the Space Wolves codex??

What is usually best is to keep them all different so you can wound allocate. I like 3 man units, with 3 Storm Shields, 1 with a Thunder hammer, then 1 with a melta bomb. This would allow every single one to be different so you could wound allocate better. It has worked out well for me so far.

5,000 points of Tau
2,000 points of Space Wolves
1,000 points of Raven Guard
Almost none of which is painted.

It really depends on what the rest of your army is like and what you will be using them for. Can you give us an idea about your list and what you would like to use hem for?

I usually run them with a wolf lord and they are really good, however they are a really expensive unit with all storm shields. Pretty hard to stop though, in our gaming group with have about 5 players sometimes 6 and they nearly always do well, especially against tau. My list consists of 4 units of 10 grey hunters in rhinos and 2 units of long fangs (not all ML because its tough to find that many) and a few supporting dreadnoughts, sometimes a vindicator but it never does well with everything getting a cover save. Just started using Lone Wolves and they are incredible fun, love charging them in against daemon princes and trying my luck. Anyway my main uses for the cavalry to is to be a fire magnet as the rest of my army can get in to position or to play counter attack against nasty close combat units to save my grey hunters from slaughter.

Bear in mind that units like Thunderwolves are often built to take advantage of the Wound Allocation rules. As it's basically confirmed that 6th edition is just around the corner, I would recommend that you don't try and figure out the optimum loadout until the new multi-wound unit rules are discovered.

Regardless of what changes 6ed brings I would run 2 storm shields and one thunderhammer. I use three (yes three) of these units in a 1500 list. They garner me more wins then any other unit in the codex. I do not use wolf lords, iron priests or lone wolfs. I do not screen them with fen wolves. I use rune priests as my HQ. RPs are arguably the best HQs at lower point games (1500-1750).
