Hello fellow Daka-ites, or whatever you call yourselves nowadays, I could use a little help. I've been very busy over the past year, and have no known anything wargaming related for that amount of time. I dropped off the map shortly after Finecast came out, so if you could please mention whatever news or changes happened to this hobby during that period of time I would be most grateful. Thank you.

Nothing too drastic. Grey Knights, dark Eldar updated and are pretty beastly. Lots of finecast issues apparently. New edition expected this year.

Did the Necrons get a new book, or just some new models? Also, I heard some rumors from a friend about Tau getting an update or some such. Any hope of that?

Necrons are useful again, and stock up on fliers, because apparently, they are going to be, as the kids say "The bees knees."

Only thing super important that I've heard is the new edition.

Since Finecast's release, the SoB got a lame WD codex and the Necrons got updated to being really good. Fluff got overhauled pretty good.

The War in Heaven had a twist on its ending. The Necrontyr rebelled and broke the C'tan into "Shards" which now serve the Necrons. Only a few C'tan escaped, possably including the Void Dragon who would have come to Earth and agreed to the Emperor's proposal in exchange for protection.

Finecast is still terrible - Dakka has frequent threads about poor moulding and bubbles everywhere.
Books-wise, we're currently waiting for 6th Edition to come out around July-ish. It's looking like GW might be weaning off the smurfs, but no-one's hoping.
The entire paint range has changed, with new names for every colour and new paint types. We now have purpose-made drybrushing paints, and texture paints with gravelly bits for spreading on bases. While GW claims that most of the new colours match their predecessors, most of them don't. There is also a new painting paradigm that works on Basecoat -> 'Layers' -> Glaze. Look at the new How To Paint Citadel Miniatures guide for further information.

Huh. The way Dakka is going on about DM, you'd think it was irreplacable. Serves me right for getting my information from the horde, rather than finding out myself.
