This is my first attempt at my new army I am building. Never played space wolves (or any space marine army for that matter) before so all cc is welcome. The theme of the 2 headed dog Morkai is represented in the pairs of everything (though I wanted a plasma gun in the other hunter squad but points didn't allow) and is just for fun, its not a nessesity if something needs to change.

For tactics, 2 of the wolf guards will lead the hunters, picking the best weapon for the job. First turn move 12 pop smoke. Turn two 6 inches and fire what I can. Turn 3 win game? Or do I die horribly? What do you guys think?

It looks like you intend to put the runepriests with the grey hunters. If so, presenting 3 targets at this point level may get you killed fast. Your opponent focuses fire and your toast. You have no long fangs with missile launchers, your heavy support is lacking. That is a lot of points to put into the wolf guard without making them terminators. Always take wolf standards for your grey hunter packs. As far as taking to of everything, it could work but there are better choices out there. Anyway, there is a wolflord Erik Morkai. you could use his company badge for your shoulder plates.

You right about all of that, I too thought about the 3 target thing not long after I posted. This next list looks pretty cookie cutter, but I guess that's what I need being a beginner SW (sm) player

Using wolf guard to double up on power weapons within a squad is tempting. Against marine armies its effective. But the problem you may run into is that you still only have one meltagun in your grey hunter squads. Its pretty common for people to kit wolf guard out with combi-meltas and power fists to add more of an anti armor element to their packs. To provide this on a budget, you could just give your wolfguard combi meltas. You could drop one grey hunter power weapon to pay for them. You will lose one attack per wolf guard this way but seeing as they already have one more attack in their profile it shouldnt hurt to much.

In general a good rule of thumb that ive heard over and over is to take one grey hunter pack for every 500 points. Grey hunters and longs fangs seem to be the back bone of many people's SW armies. I think as a beginner, these two elements of the army are what you need to pay attention to. If you were to consider dropping a grey hunter pack, a venerable dreadnaught could be an interesting choice. At 175 points you could get one with a heavy flamer and a multimelta. It will draw a lot of fire, and if it doesnt, heaven help your opponent when it gets close. Drawing fire away from your'e other units with preven your rhinos from getting popped. A dreadnaught so armed can handle infantry with its strength five heavy flamer and easily pop vehicles with its multimelta.

Consider giving each of these a combi-melta and Power Fist, or a combi-melta and wolf claw. Maybe make one of your GH squads a 5 man squad in a Razorback to pay for it. If you also drop the Runic Armor from the RP, then you might have enough to upgrade that Razorback.
