I am thinking of doing Marines again. The new stormtalon just seems to cool to pass up and I should really retire my Grey Knights as they break the game (last Tourney I went to I tabled all my opponents including the guys who came 2nd and 3rd overall).

So's here's the list:

Librarian: Nullzone, Aveneger, Combi melta 115

5 Tactical Marines: Razorback, Assault Cannon, Combi melta, Power Sword 200
5 Tactical Marines: Razorback, Assault Cannon, Combi melta 185
10 Scouts: Camo cloaks, Sniper rifles 175

Dreadnought: 2 twinlinked Autocannons 125
Dreadnought: 2 twinlinked Autocannons 125

Stormtalon: Typhoon Missile Launcher 155
Stormtalon: Typhoon Missile Launcher 155
Stormtalon: Typhoon Missile Launcher 155

Predator: Lascannon Sponsons 120
Predator: Lascannon Sponsons 120
Predator: Lascannon Sponsons 120

What do you think?

I could swapout the scouts for anpother Razorback squad, though I thought that mightr leave me a little light on the ground for objective missions. I've gone with assault cannons on the Razorbacks because they are better anti-tank and horde control and I'd probably use these units in midfield (where objectives are likely to be), though I could swap to las-plas.

Is this viable?

I like it, but I feel the real strength of the Storm Talon is the ability to come in with another Reserved unit. That helps them survive as they are only AV 11. Also, did you give the Storm Talon the S7 AP4 Missile Launcher? If not I'd suggest that as it will take down Rhino's and Raiders like nothing. Lastly, I think Las/Plas is better on the Razorbacks as your army is at 48".

However I like the list a lot and feel like it would do good!

Why would I take the Skyhammer missile launcher over the Typhoon?

Against AV11 (rhinos and razorbacks) they are equally effective.

Against AV10 and 1 wound Terminators the Sky hammer is better but against everything thing else the Typhoon is superior.

I mean against: AV12-14, MEqs, FnP Terminators and MEqs, Hordes, MCs, T4 Characters, Nobz, Most types of Bike (including eldar jet), Nob Bikers, Nid Warriors (and othger T4 multiwound models), etc etc etc

For the same points!! Sorry but I just don't see why you'd ever even consider the Skyhammer over the Typhoon?

As for the arrival as you can't add to deepstriking units it has no real value. I could just reserve them for coming on from my board edge. The only other use would be to bring them on with an outflanking army so I would expect to see them popping up in many White Scars armies but I didn't really want to do that.

Well, instead of the 3 Stormtalons you could field 5 Typhoons.
Not a bad list.

I know but I'd lose speed, the 3 twinlinked assault cannons and a point of armour, not to mention the ceramite plating (meaning melta has only a 50% chance to penetrate rather than 91.67%, that's a big difference).

Though the main reason I'm taking the Stormtalon is because I like it rather than thinking it gives me a huge boon over the Landspeeder Typhoon.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Though I will swap out the Asssault cannons for Las-plas, revackey is right i'm a 48" range army (too much time with Grey Knights has made me like the 24" killzone and heavy 4 rending weapons too much)...

I see what you mean, I said it because you can take more TML with Landspeeders, I see what you mean with the assault cannon, +1 AV and ceramic armor but most likely a group of long fangs or a psyrifleman will kill both the Flyer and Landspeeder, so its really personal preference.(I'd rather see the flyer)

Regardless, nice list! Good to see a past grey knight player come to terms with the power of the codex.

I wouldn't say the codex is too bad it is just the Psycannon being too good and Purifiers being able to take 2 in a 5 man squad. If it was 1 per 5 men the codex would be powerful but not broken (except for Paladins in KP missions, but they suck in other missions and have horrendous match ups).

I think alot of poeple have seen the Skyhammer as a 1+ shot autocannon and thought wow, then not done the maths versus the Typhoon.

On a side note if you could equipe the Landspeeder with a twinlinked Assault cannon and Typhoon it would cost 140 (50 basic - 10 for heavy bolter gone, 40 points for typhoon, 40 points for Asssault cannon x 1.5 for twinlinking so 60 points) for 15 points the extra AV and speeder and aerial assault rules are well worth it to me.

But yeah just taking more Typhoon is probably just as good (though squadroning would mean that the extra bodies would not increase in survivability as you'd expect against stuff like long fangs and riflemen).

Not sure if I would reserve a Stormtalon. After all, its a shooty tank and this would reduce the number of rounds it would be able to shoot.

As a dark Eldar player I'm more afraid of the psyriflemen, but that's off topic a bit.

Is the skyhammer cheaper? Because I want to say thats why people are suggesting it, the whole 'it's not to survivable so let's put as little points into it while keeping it effective'. However you clearly don't have that problem because of the filler points in the tac squad.

And I don't get me wrong I know how squadrons are, that's what I meant by the fact that a lot of things that cripple the flyer will cripple the squadron.

To the other poster, you put it in a white scars list and escort out flankers, get side or rear shots on things with assault cannons and auto cannons/missile launchers. If you can get in 3 units turn 2 you can put a hurt on just about all mech armies and have decent target saturation to keep your bikers alive.

Same points exactly which is why it makes no sense to me. The Skyhammer has a 60" range but on a vehicle that can move 12" and fire everything and has an awesome 24" range gun as well I don't really see the benefit in a 60" range unless you play a lot of apocalypse.

Yeah as I said I think the Escort rule will be largely used by White Scars players where it makes loads of sense. The only other great use from it would be to escort drop pods for alpha strikes but the rule says no to escorting deepstrikers which to me makes the rule rather pointless unless you are playing ninja with lots of outflankers.
