I have a wartrakk I'm not using, haven't bought the 5 Deffkoptas or Kans yet. Most of the time, I play against CSM, Cadian, or Tyranids. Playing on a budget, I'd like to just use what I have.

Your boys can not buy a trukk if they number more then 12. So your first list is illegal. Same with the second list actually.

Fixed it, I split them into 2 groups. Give one a Nob w/ PK and have the Warboss join the other group.

What do you have available for you to use? What kind of army do you want? I mean are you trying to be super competitiive, or just to play for fun?
Honestly both lists can use some work. What is your play style? Do you like Mechinized, or just swarm or shooty or what?

I'm just looking to play for fun, I have 3 other friends that I play with who play Cadian, CSM, and Tyranid. The Tyranid I'm not concerned with because we both have horde armies but the CSM and the Cadian armies are using a lot of tanks.I have a war buggy and 5 lootas but I want to get away from shooting since they are mainly a melee army (I need 5s to hit), but feel like I need stronger units to counter the tanks.

Thats a misconception, Actually Orks can shoot rather good. You just have to build it for that. Mass shots will still hit what they need to.
Well you don't really have alot to go off of. So I don't think you can really make a strong army.
Honestly dropping the trukks and adding the lootas in there would help a bit more. One trukk really isn't going to last. Then you have 2 smaller squads of Orks. not really a good thing. Foot slogging troops shoujld be at least 20 boys strong. Trukks should have all 12 bodies in there unless it is going to have an IC with them.
If you want to do the kans, you should try to get more. Two squads are good at this level. You will also want a Mek w/Kustom force field.
Splits those koptas up as they willhelp deal with some tanks. Do all have Saws?
I understadn you are starting out. It is just hard to really make a good enough list with what you have. You need to figure out if you want to do Mech, or foot slogging. That will help us help you better for sure.

Hey, just for the record, I'm pretty darn sure you can buy a Trukk for a 30 man Ork Boyz squad, they just obviously RIDE in it. I've seen that before, a Razorback for a 10 man Tactical squad(broken into combat squads where the assault weapon and Sgt ride in the Razorback, while the other 5 hang back with the heavy weapon). I've never seen anything that says you can't, if you have please post.
Cool lists by the way, I love Orks! Haha

In the ork codex it states "mobs of 12 or fewer models may take a trukk as a dedicated transport vehicle."-ork codex pg 100 Most armies can but orks can not.

My thinking with the trukk was b/c we tend to end up playing objective based games and if I would have a better chance of winning if I could get a squad inside the objectives early.
I'll probably end up foot slogging since I already have some units heading in that direction. I know that I'm going to lose a lot of guys, so I'm prepared for that.
Should I just go green tide then?

Well as an Ork player you shouldn't worry about getting the Objective first. You have to worry about slowly fighting your way to get to the objective. What I mean by that is you only need one objective to win. Make sure its theres that you take it from.
Yes you will lose alot, but there are ways to mitigate that. The Mek w/KFF does a pretty good job at that. Kan walls do a really good job at that. More boys then they can shoot does that.
All I can say is read through your codex and see what works with what and formulate a plan of attack.
Green tides are fun in a way to play, but are very tough to play in timed events. It takes alot to move 150 some Orks acrossed the board in a timly manner. There is differnt version of the tide list, and that is the Kan wall like I have mentioned. It is basically a green tide, but with kans and maybe dreads to cover the tide of boys. The KFF gives a 4+ cover to all the Kans/Dreads while those give the save to the boys.

Hey man, I am a new Ork player myself. I've been building and painting and writing up my list for about 6 months now. Unfortunately due to work and ride issues I haven't played a single game, but I have been doing research and watching battle reports the whole time so I am going to give you advice based on what I have gathered from all over the internet. So what you have right now makes it difficult to have a decent chance.
Orks aren't necessarily a melee army. They are basically a spamming army, what ever they want to do they do in large numbers to make up for their lack of survivability or skill in that certain area. For example, if you want your armies truck's to survive you need multiple to make up for the AV 10 all around. I played a game once where my SM scout Sgt took out my opponents trukk with a pistol . So needless to say trukk's are very crunchy so a loner will more then likely not survive past turn 2, but if you have 3 or 4 then their chances of survival go up greatly. Also getting a KFF or 2 with a coupple battle wagunz with deff rollaz and loaded with boyz, nobz, burnaz, or whatever tickles your fancy will make your force something to be reckoned with.
On that same note, Ork's with their BS 2 needing 5 up aren't going to hit very often... that's why you take a lot of Dakka . A lot of shoota boyz, a lot of lootaz, lots and lots of Dakka! 20 boyz geting 20 shots with pistols will land you a few 5's, 20 boyz getting 40 shots will land much more.
The Kan wall list is also a popular list where a wall of killa kanz and deff deredz are followed by Big Mek's with KFF's to give the Kanz and Dredz a 4up cover save and the ability to repair any that have been immobilized to keep the waaghh moving forward.
No matter what kind of list you are running remember this, the back bone of any Ork waaaghhh! are it's boyz, so bring lots of them. There's three sizes boyz mobz are usually taken, 12 only if mounted in a Trukk, 20, or 30.
All of that being said, no matter what you bring to the table, even if it is a list that most wouldn't play, Ork's were men't to be very very fun to play. Hope this helps a bit.
