So im quite new to 40k, ive been playing and building up an imperial guard army and my friends and the guys at my local hobby shop generally play 2000pts. I play imperial guard because I am a M1 abrams tanker in the national guard and i love tanks and the imperial guard has plenty! I am currently working on a tank themed army but the list i have now should have more, im trying to get as many russes as i can and still be slightly competitive.

HQ
CCS x4-snipers

Troops
Platoon command squad-x4 flamers in chimera w/HHF

Power Blob Squad x3-infantry squads
x3 grenade launchers
Comissar
x4 power wepons

Heavy Weapons Team x3-Autocannons

Heavy Weapons Team x3 Lascannons

Veterans in chimera with x3 meltaguns w/HHF

Veterans in chimera with x3 meltaguns w/HHF

Elites
Marbo

Fast Attack
Vendetta

Heavy Support

Leman russ squadron
leman russ battle tank x2

Leman russ squadron
leman russ battle tank x2, x2 hull lascannons, x2 heavy bolter sponsons, and pask(Cadian theme)

Manticore

20pts left

when i first started i was going for a gunline theme but now i would rather try and go with an armored list and try to get as many tanks in a list while being somewhat competitive as said above. this is basically everything i have aside from 2 demolishers, and another battle tank with sponsons. i wasnt sure if i should maybe try Hell hounds and give them hull multimeltas to have anti infantry and some anti tank. I know there can be a lot taken out and put in to make a much more armored list so advice is much appreciated! I tried looking up other armored lists but didnt have much success or advice. I usually play against my friend who has nids and i usually crush him with my battlecannons but when i go to my local hobby shop i play against Imperial guard, Chaos Marines and Daemons, Dark Eldar, and Necrons. Ive had a lot of fun playing the various armies and am slowly learning of what i should kill and look out for and am getting better but I just like having fun seeing my tanks drive over the board blasting my opponents, may not win with an armored list but im in it for the fun and artwork as well!!

The CCS has a poor setup, sniper rifles are one of the worst options for them. Given them plasma guns and a Chimera and send them out to destroy monstrous creatures.

Infantry Squads really should have a autocannon, that extra fire power will really help you.

You should have two Vendettas for target saturation and redundancy, a single one is probably going to get blown out of the sky first turn as it's a big threat.

You don't need Leman Russ tanks in squadrons. They will have to fire all weapons at a single unit. Plus Paask is pretty crap as well. I would just take normal Russes with a hull flamer and that's it.

If you want to go a mech force then consider this:

Company Command Squad w/ Chimera - 4 x plasma guns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer
Company Command Squad w/ Chimera - 4 x plasma guns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer

Veterans w/ Chimera - 3 x plasma guns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer
Veterans w/ Chimera - 3 x plasma guns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer
Veterans w/ Chimera - 3 x meltaguns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer
Veterans w/ Chimera - 3 x meltaguns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer
Veterans w/ Chimera - 3 x meltaguns - Chimera w/ heavy flamer

Devildog - hull multi melta
Devildog - hull multi melta
Devildog - hull multi melta

Leman Russ Demolisher - hull heavy flamer
Leman Russ Demolisher - hull heavy flamer
Leman Russ Demolisher - hull heavy flamer

Ok, so now you have 13 vehicles, that's a mech list and it's going to be damn tough. You've got plenty of melta to destroy vehicles, I.D multi wound T4 models and loads of plasma to tackle elite infantry and monstrous creatures. This list has it all.

FYI my own Guard list is like this, except has Vendettas and Manticores. Vendettas add some serious ranged fire power and Manticores get more shots over any Leman Russ variant.

Hope that helps.

Indeed it does, and thanks for the advice! I wasnt sure how many veterans there should be to make sure that if objectives are played that I have units to capture them. I have some demolishers with hull flamers so that will work out. as for getting all the chimeras and hellhounds, it will take time but thats a list i would have fun playing. I ghad just picked up a manticore and used it and I really love them, good for taking mass swarms out and blowing up some AV 14 armored vehicles. I really like the vendettas but the first one i got was a pain to put together, none of the pieces wanted to go together and i spent hours carving pieces to get them to fit and i wasnt sure if the models themselves were like that.

I think you may have had a bad cut. I've had two Vendettas and not had that problem with either of them.

oh yea coulda just been a bad one. now with veterans is it generally a good idea to give them shotguns? Since the chimeras are usually going to be moving they will either rapid fire or get there shot gun for two shots, but i also know guard assaulting is bad unless you really beat down a squad and want to finish them or you have a blob. I figured just keep the lasguns and keep them in the transports as much as possible.

Never used shotguns tbh. Really the Guardsmen should be in the tank blasting with special weapons. If they get blown out their tank then accept they are dead. The only down side to shotguns is they cannot get a order for FRFSRF.

oh i see and makes sence, thank you for the help and advice. My army is the way it is as mentioned i was gunna go standard gunline but decided to go tank/mech and now am slowly trying to finish the mech list lol. Ive used the manticore and will admit its really good but aside from that is there any other artillery unit that is good although i would probably just stick with my favored russes.

I found shotgun on vets with melta guns to actually be a good move. They are free and Assault 2 instead of rapid fire. This means if you have something like a MC or a unit that cannot kill 10 guardsmen in one round of CC you can lock them up for your turn and theirs and then shoot them. Just something to think about.
