Why is it every time I watch or read something about chaos and by a lesser association chaos daemons I want an army of them? I have gk's read the omnibus of them I know there are a TON of gk players but man chaos juts looks and feels so cool. I think I may have to try out dem chaos crazies after my orks are done (whenever that is )
Why do you guys think it's so easy to love chaos? I watch miniwargaming for those of you who follow that trend and man dave's army is awesome and the deffy thing is hilarious and I've read all but 4 of the horus heresy novels and the models and fluff are mmm mmm good (Reading the Iron warriors omnibus as we speak) and every time I think about it chaos gets more appealing but I hear when they're on the table it's not so mmm mmm good either way what's the general feeling about chaos? Like it love it (want it purged from the galaxy for all you smurfs out there)

Next to Orks, Chaos is one of the armies that you can take extreme liberties with modification and really make your army "yours". That is one of the initial calls to why it is awesome to me.
Chaos Daemons have a rough time in 40k right now but 6th ed might fix that or alleviate some of it. Chaos Marines can be vicious on the table, you just have to find out what works for you and stick to it.

they do have some very cool physical vibe in my opinion, colorful and interesting to look at. i can't put my finger on it....maybe thats the definition of cool?

lol I think it's the fluff too though. The world eaters being khorne's go to madmen or the 1k sons and their we were awesome we were betrayed and now we're even MORE awesome. I dunno I do agree with the "make it your own" army statement as you literally have a warband that you can do as you please with. I know the daemon prince thing (slaughtering millions into billions of people to get your wings) just gives red bull the naughty naughty nono finger. I'm starting the iron warriors omnibus do you guys know of any blogs or anything I can read more up on the actual table standard of chaos? Do you think 6th will turn chaos into gk's? ie you'll see them everywhere?

Army wise I think that they appeal to people who like very 'busy' models. Personally, I prefer a neater, more austere look, but if you like the sort of active aesthetic that seems to prevail in much of the 40k artwork, Chaos comes through in spades. I think that Chaos Daemons as an army could be very easy to love, and very simple to play. Tabletop wise, I think that Chaos has two army choices, one a MEQ choice, and one a wholly unique option. I think that they are competitive and fun to play.
That being said, fluff wise I neither like nor love Chaos. I think that the Chaos Marines are frequently poorly defined as characters, and got the short end of the motivation stick. I think that some writers (most notably Aaron Dembski-Bowden) can carve some sense into them, but most of the Chaos Legions are pretty silly at best, and cartoonish at worst.
For all that, I like the concept of the Chaos Daemons still. I'd love to have a Daemons army some day.

I can only agree with MOST of the cartoony villains thing. 9/10 chaos lords would rather watch someone die rather than simpley kill them and move on vs the realistic kill him and move along with your newfound power. I do love bowden's work and between swallow and ben counter's writing I think we have enough nonsense in the 40k universe. BUT! graham mcneil wrote the iron warriors stuff and enjoyed the ultramarines omnibus so maybe the new warsmith will be cool. Chaos daemons are just a league of their own in the cool dpt. They have everything you could ask for in an army (appearances of course) but again, I don't know how their tabletop play is (without fateweaver) I don't see many lists pop up that don't have fateweaver of some kind which worries me about their potential. But I definitely agree that you go MEQ or you go daemons or you can somewhat mingle daemons into the MEQ list. I dunno yet. These orks don't like chaos crazies and if I started working on them we might have a toy soldiers incident where I wake up and they're looking at each other like once he goes to sleep it's on...

I find Chaos daemons very cool, but they are kind of a turnoff for me because I have a hard time dishing out a bunch of cash for single models, and Chaos needs a lot of those to be competitive. Perhaps one day when I have money.

What competitive models do Chaos Deamons have that are prohibitively expensive?

Fluff - Love
The way it translates to the game... Not that much.
I hope future CSM / Daemons codexes fix that

CSM are cool. Loyalist Marines were cool to begin with but CSM have gone off the deep end. Spikes, Tenticles, Zombies, Demons. These are all very cool.
In terms of tabletop popularity, I think people who want the 3+ armour save without stooping to Space Marines find them attractive. Like it makes it ok because they are baddies, if that makes sense. Im putting a Death Guard army together and cant wait to get it rocking.

Here's my reasons to love chaos :
1) Look and Feel : Chaos has a an heavy Dirty and Heavy Metal look that fit the theme of a Grim Dark Future. They offer much customization even withouth having to even make conversions.
2) Fluff : Chaos is a central force in the W40k and as such has a great fluff. It's characters are quite memorables, good looking and damn awesome
3) Because it's Chaos.

I've always loved the chaos fluff. The over the top theatrics mixed with the brutal nature making pacts with TRUE evil just to destroy their foe taking it to the maximum.
It's like a friend of mine said "When I think 40k chaos I think of the most hardcore evils any scifi or fantasy realm ever thought to put their dukes up against" And I love the world eater I'm falling in love with the iron warriors and I've always loved the world eaters. I don't mind death guard and after fighting the wolves on the tabletop I'm all for the 1k sons...

What initially drew me to them is that they were the greatest villains in the 40k universe. At the time I started playing them, Dark Eldar and Necrons were still fairly new, and the later was all but mindless. Tyranids never really seemed that "evil" to me because they always seemed to be to animalistic. More of a survival thing than anything else, and Orks are just to hilariously incompetent/goofy to be real villains. This left me with Chaos.
Once I got into them more (the 3.5 codex) I loved them for the simply insane amount of options and versatility of the codex. You could go Iron Warriors with extremely heavy mech, or word bearers with up to 9 daemon packs (before they became generic lesser daemons). Unfortunately this was not to last, and we were eventually left with the current 4th edition codex with less options and lacklustre units.
I have high hopes for the new codex though. My only concerns are that we'll get Matt Ward doing the codex, and/or become the latest flavour of the month. I'd really rather not have to suffer through a codex of fanfic-y writing and ridiculous out of the blue rules. Fingers crossed for a Kelly dex.

No no, not that they are overly expensive, I just don't like paying so much for individual models, even monsterous creatures. I feel the same way about vehicles, which is why I scratchbuild most of mine. I dunno, call me cheap bastard i guess.

I'm juts looking into the marine portion for now. I think an iron warrior's daemon prince would look awesome. I think chaos is exactly what I need to get back into playing MEQ'S because after playing orks I just can't stand the idea of loyalist marines Automatically Appended Next Post: Where do you guys think is a good starting point for a I don't wanna say competitive chaos army but I guess that's what I'm looking for...
