Hi a set of several Newbie questions to follow.
I am looking at purchasing the T34 Tank set from Plastic Soldier Company as the start of my Soviet Force and expand my gaming away from WHFB and 40K. So after reading http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Starting_a_Flames_of_War_Force I decided that I'd start a Mid-War TANKOVY force.
I am about to order the T34 Tank set as stated above what else would I need to get a nice balanced 1k point list that would be fun and easy to learn the mechanics with?
MAny Thanks for your help

Well, lets assume you have the requisite rules book and Eastern Front.
First thing I would do is make sure that the group in your area is playing MW and not LW. LW is typically more popular, but most forces can be built for either era with minor tweaks.
I would also probably go with the PSC Batallion deal. You are going to want in the 20 tank range for a tankovy horde. Russians in both eras have a cost per tank benefit for taking more tanks per unit. Most tankovy units I have seen range in the 8-10 model range.
After that, I would probably get one box of PSC russian infantry and probably the 15mm heavy weapons. No idea on points, but that should hit in the 1000 area and give your the basics...armor, infantry, artilery...to get a feel for the game.

Well after a quick chat with a few people down the LGC, the Hammer & Sickle rules (MW?) are used the most and I have also managed to pick up an army from a player who is leaving the game for £40 which isn't too bad, its not Soviet but here it is regardless.
1500 Pts - German Schwere Panzerkompanie List
Total List Cost: 1495
Company HQ, 225 pts
1 Tiger I E
Schwere Panzer Platoon - 430 pts
2 Tiger I E
Schwere Panzer Platoon - 430 pts

Its pretty standard schwere panzer.
It's also pretty hard to play. You are hard to kill, but there are certainly "paper" out there to fight your "rock".
In GW terms...you have a "finese" army instead of a forgiving "power armor" army.

Thats fine with me. Thankfully the force is assembled and primed so I don't have to faff about gluing the heads and weapons on the infantry. Hopefully I'll be able to learn the game mechanics with it and move on to something else if I like the game.
