I have been slowly gathering a Space Marine army to work on after I finish off the CSM force I bought on impulse. I was originally thinking of painting the SM as Crimson Fists, but I've been painting the CSM in essentially the exact same color scheme and I'm tired of blue. I want to do a Codex-compliant army (i.e. not Blood Angels, Space Wolves etc.), but I'm having trouble deciding. What options are there that don't use blue and don't require me to make up a whole lot of fluff on my own? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Exorcists!

There is much fluff for them in the Imperial Armor Books about the Badab War, but you have enough room to do everything you want, so no real chapter"tactics" that forbid certain units (like the white scars who have no dreads etc.).

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

You own the SM codex, right? The SM codex mentions some armies that both have an established fluff and are also not blue.

Plus, you could always just make your own chapter. SM chapter fluff tends not to be very different from each other. You could just copy the fluff of the ultramarines and change all the names and you'd be good to go.

How do you feel about yellow? It's not easy to paint (although MUCH easier with the new GW paint range) but is very distinctive and eye catching. Also, as a son of Dorn, so to speak, I'm a big fan of Imperial Fists! It's about as close as you can get to Crimson Fists without having to paint any blue.

Salamanders are also very cool, but fairly common. I personally like Blood Ravens a lot, as the deep red/bone contrast is very nice.

How about Hawk Lords? They are not very blue, you dont see them around too much either.

Well, they are purple and gold. They do have the eagerly sought after "3rd Street Saints" factor

Indeed! If I were to ever do a SM army, I would be all over the Hawk Lords.

You realize that you can make your own chapter, and you aren't forced to create a whole lot of fluff, or any fluff at all.

Yes, I am well aware of that. I have built a chapter with a paint scheme based on Metallica album covers, and another converted to have yoroi-style samurai armor. I want to try an orthodox" paint scheme, one that is easily replicable and one for which someone has made a logo sheet I can print out on decal paper.

As it stands, I'm thinking of either Hawk Lords or Screaming Griffons. I'll try painting one of each and see which I enjoy more.

Thanks for your suggestions!
