Hello Dakka.

I am currently painting up some Lothern Sea Guard from the Island of blood kit.

I hate painting hair, more so elven hair of a blonde nature, everyone I've done thus far has looked less then impressive.

Can anyone recommend colours and techniques to use? any advice would be great as currently I've left them black and the omission is glaringly obvious..

I do mine with a vermin brown base, then a few highlights of bleached bone with some yellow in it.

How are you painting hair? I use a simple base coat, wash and dry brush high lights technique.

At the moment I'm not. Most mini's I've painted have had helmets! or are a darker colour. The issue I have with these is the hair is long, flowing half way down their backs.

Vermin Brown with Yellow/bleach bone highlights sounds about what I'm looking for, you don't happen to have an example of how this looks?

But I use a very strong contrast on my miniatures and the vermin brown with bone/yellow highlights looks really nice and blonde. Seems to go well with the high elves, but I suppose it depends on what colour your armour is. My high elves have gold for their armour and the blonde seems rather nice up against it. Well I like it at any rate.

My simple skills for elf hair base coat in desert yellow, wash with devlan miracle,then dry brush with bad moon yellow.

No worries, thanks for the advice. I fortunately have the paints you have listed so will give that a go tonight.

Thanks for the pic, looks a little darker then what I'm after but thanks for the comparison.

I am doing my Lothern either with Desert Yellow or Kommando Khaki - after dipping into Strongtone Quichshade it looks fine. But my High Elves are more gritty and weathered, since I am doing Athel Loren Expeditionary Force (the next would be Wood Elves).

For a bright blonde, I basecoat Vomit Brown, drybrush with Golden Yellow, do final highlights with Bad Moon Yellow (yes, I still have some), then a final 2/1 water/brown ink (like P3 provides; I haven't tried it with thinned-down GW washes yet) glaze to bring out the texture.

A darker blonde goes Snakebite Brown, Bubonic Brown, Golden Yellow, and then the 2/1 brown ink glaze.

Wow, You still have some Bad Moon Yellow, was that not discontinued in 2009?

Cheers for al the advice, wanted to try this out last night but found myself in the pub playing darts. Will post pics of the end result over the weekend.
