i think if we have a facebook "like" button for threads and gallery pictures.
this will be an easy way to share pictures and posts on facebook (i know there is a button to share a post, but its not there for pictures)
and it can replace the exalt button, and therefore the exalt counter that has been requested in this forum.

I'd much rather have the exalt counter.

or do both, i just think being able to link a gallery picture to facebook will be good to get new people to dakka

There is one - 'share on facebook' in the gallery and it will share the picture. Just scroll beneath the image.

Id rather keep dakka and facebook two very separate entities,

(they go together about as well as water and motor oil if you ask me)

true but it still not the same effect as likes.
sharing will provide a link and a thumbnail on FB where if you have a like button it will do the same, and count likes visible on dakka and facebook

Like counting will never be integrated as it basically hands all of our traffic data to facebook. I'd much sooner go without the feature than sacrifice the privacy of all users (even non-registered). It took me 4 years to add google analytics and I still feel guilty about that but the usefulness outweighs the negatives and they have a slightly better record on privacy.
