The only fluff I've been able to find on these guys is from the Lexicanum site. Since they're a penal legion I don't think they'd have much in terms of armored support, but then I remembered their process of recruitment. In trade for enlisting, their higher ups "promise to allow them to keep anything they take from the battlefield." So... What if they hopped in an empty allied tank and drove off with it? Maybe even tow away some vehicles abandoned in the fight? Would this be acceptable to describe the presence of vehicles in my list, fluffwise?

They aren't quite a penal legion but they aren't exactly far above them.
They're a Guard unit recruited from imprisoned miners working in some pretty horrible mines. They are thieves, murderers etc
So yeah you could have anything in your army and just say 'They 'borrowed' it'.

Ah, alright then. Thanks for the quick reply! Aside from the Lexicanum site, which had its page on Savlar deleted, is there anywhere else I could learn more about these guys?

I'm not sure...
There isn't a great amount on them to be honest...
An Chem Dog armoured regiment starred in the short story 'Defixio' IIRC. So you may want to look that up.

They're a great army with some really good modelling options IMO, good luck and I'll keep an eye out if I see anything.

There is a pretty good P&M blog here that isn't official but might be worth some inspiration.

I meant what I said, sadly. The page for Savlar itself has been deleted. Was looking for background info on them; thought to myself why not look into their planet, but alas! The Inquisition says no!

AFAIK the planet itself is a fairly standard planet...
The Chem Dogs come from the chemical mines in the moons around the planet. The miners are largely either criminals or their descendants pressed into service due to various crimes (ranging from petty theft to mass murder)
You can get out of the mines by volunteering for service in the Guard... this would extend your life expectancy somewhat...
Most of the Chem Dogs also have some form of respirator often home made due to the mine owners lack of care for their workers.
As you have already noticed they steal things like it's no bodies business but theirs... which is probably true because they probably stole everyone's business and now it's their's...

Or you could be like the Blood Ravens and say they are gifts.

It's not a gift, it's a "gift".

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
