Subject: Fluff I made for my unit...

I came up with this in my spare time while i was serving in the military...
I made it without any real references except what I already knew about Imperial Guard and Tyranids,... any feedback please...
**REVISED**
28th Cadian/Valhallan Regiment - "Veridian's Vipers/Falconus' Falcons" (one or the other, not sure which leader should get credit for the unit) -
In late M41 a group of Cadian Shock Troops were sent to the planet of Valhalla to join the Valhallan 8th’s depleting numbers, called the Valhallan Support Legion or Cadian 20th. They fought side by side against the invading Orks in the labyrinth of tunnels below Valhallas frozen surface. Later, they became the 28th CVR (what else could work?). After years of fighting side by side this regiment has, itself, depleted. At the time of amalgamation, a majority of the unit was Cadian, 70%.The unit has shrank in numbers due to the Ork's attack. The 28th is small enough now to technically be considered either a platoon or company, yet their reputation from the engagement precedes them for the unit to remain being called a regiment.
The Ork invaders on Valhalla have since been fought off and in turn the 28th has been selected and directed elsewhere in the galaxy because of its valued veteran soldiers and command along with extensive experience of close-quarter combat (from fighting in the tunnels). The unit is now primarily used for combat patrols on the outlying urban planets due to its small size and the Imperium’s refusal to fold them into another unit. Their first task is to eradicate any threats and retrieve as much data about the current status of a planet called Calibria, an abandoned feral world near Valhalla.
The unit is led by Cadian Col. Ledarius Veridian, a by-the-book commander that focuses on the task at hand. The 28th CVR is also accompanied by Lord Commissar Drako Falconus. Falconus is a strong willed, patriotic leader that will do whatever it costs to protect the Imperium and the men of the unit he is a part of, but does not let that interfere with his somewhat jovial attitude. Drako was attached to the 20th Cadian during the Third War for Armageddon, many years prior to the merging; and the 13th Black Crusade on Cadia when he was attached to the 107th Cadian. The guardsmen respect him, Veridian and every task they are ordered to complete.
With the Valhallan regiment’s uniform originally being an all white scheme, to blend with the snow on their ice world, Veridian had to make a change with the uniforms to not only create unity among the men but to also adapt with the changing terrain that the unit is currently fighting in, predominately urban, similar to that of the Cadian 512th Orbital Defense uniform.
PLANET PROFILE
NAME- Calibria
SEGMENTUM- Ultima Segmentum
RECOGNIZED LOCATION- Halfway point between Valhalla and Baal
NOTABLE DATES-
DISCOVERED- 297.M33
COLONIZED- 567.M34
ABANDONED- 752.M41
PLANET TYPE- Civilized 573.M34- 752.M41
Feral 752.M41- Present
POPULATION- Unknown
SURFACE- It has a sprawling ruined city landscape, rock and boulder terrain, majority is impassable by vehicle except city roads. An extensive tunnel system spider webs beneath the surface for access to the planet's fresh water supply. Atmosphere is overcome with high altitude large particle dust storms in turn causing a continuous overcast sky. Direct sunlight has not touched the surface since before planet’s discovery. A day is 18 hours long and the planet revolves around its sun in 48 of its days. The planet’s size is similar to that of Mars.
COMMENTS- Planet was abandoned in M41 due to an invasion by Tyranid swarms. Planet is currently invested by Tyranid swarms of an unknown type. Few Imperial colonists still reside in ruined and abandoned structures within cities. An Imperial Guard unit (28th CVR) has been sent to the planet to provide relief to the Calibrians and to obtain new data about threat levels and survivability. The unit has yet to return with an update of status.
I have already been asked why I don't just make a new race that resides on Calibria. I say because that would totally miss the feeling I want for the background of my unit... and I already have Cadian and Valhallan miniatures.
Im trying to come up with a name that works better then Cadian/Valhallan Regiment (28th CVR, I liked it when I made it... not sure now)... Calibria is not overriden by Tyranids yet because of a mysterious force on the planet. I am writing short stories to uncover it. (Im leaning towards the remaining unknown number of inhabitants on Calibria to be blamed for defending what lives are left... or maybe even having Orks be present...
Thanks in advance for any feedback

It's unlikely for even a Lord Commissar to hold command of a regiment, however he may attach himself to a certain regiment to serve in.
I'd come up with a new name entirely for the regiment, something that represents their amalgamated status(Like the 28th Calibrian regiment) or something like that...
The planet should have been consumed by now though, unless there is some seriously hardcore resistance preventing it...
Otherwise it seems pretty good.

I agree with purplefood, it's much more likely for a commissar to cede command, they are selected to be political officers for a reason. That means few takes the drastic route of Gaunt and elects himself as the CO of the regiment. For me the commissars are excellent judges of characters, but less so in planning about combat.

Gaunt wasn't elected CO he was promoted... by a Warmaster... As for the updates. I like the addition of an actual ranked commander but he may need a promotion to Colonel... You could say that he was the highest ranking officer after the two regiments were hit badly leaving him in charge of the new amalgamated regiment... If you make up a name for the planet they were both on you could use that for their new name... e.g. If they were decimated during fighting on the planet Asadar you could call them the Assadarian 28th regiment?

Does it make sense for them to be named after a planet that they were just sent to to investigate? Im tossing around the idea in my head but I need a little more validation.
Thanks for your input.

You could say both regiments (Both they were decimated) we sent to this planet to investigate.
There they fought [insert suitable enemy here] but took heavy casualties.
They were amalgamated and they took the name of the planet that they had fought on.

The Cadian unit arrived on Valhalla to support the Valhallan unit during the Ork invasion of Valhalla, then (after neither were needed on valhalla) the two units were combined and THEN sent to Calibria for a mission. So, technically they were amalgamated on Valhalla, but I didn't think calling Cadians a "Valhallan unit" would be normal...

That might present a problem...
You could say that it was a brand new Cadian regiment combined with a veteran Valhallan regiment.
So when they fought on Calibria together (As one unit) they received a true baptism of fire as it were...
After that they renamed themselves.

That sounds good, and makes sense because of the Valhallan's experience... I'll incorporate it. Thanks.
