Something I've been messing around with in the back of my head since the codex came out, and I know many others have messed around with similar so wanted to get a new thread going to see how ideas have evolved.
So the idea is to create a Royal Court Vehicle muncher, obviously based around Lanceteks.
My initial favorite combo was the following:
3 X Lancetek (105)
1 X Harptek w/other anti assault thingy whose name escapes me atm (65)
1 X Chronotek (40)
Total 210 points.
Lethal, versatile (Av 10 to 14), nigh un-assaultable, but a bit fragile. So that got me thinking, what can we do to augment it just a bit to give it more staying power?
At first I played with the idea of a Lord w/Res Orb/SW/Phase Shifter...but good god that's expensive (125 points). Still there is some intriguing qualities to this guy, namely Semp weave/Phase Shifter with RP and res orb combined with the chrono just straight eats bullets for a living.
Some numbers:
A semp weave, chrono, RP with resorb has a 98.7% chance of surviving a bullet. That...is incredibly good odds.
A Phase Shifter, chrono, RP with resorb has a 94.4% chance of surviving anything else.
Basically, that 125 point investment almost gives the ability to ignore the first wound of every volley that comes at the unit (until the chrono is burned of course). At least worth considering.
However, still, at that price tag you could almost have a multi wound Overlord fill the same roll. In fact, their is one in particular (Nemesor) that synergizes quite well with the unit (tank hunter).
So that brought me to this:
Nemesor (185)
3 X Lancetek (105)
1 X Harptek w/other anti assault thingy whose name escapes me atm (65)
1 X Chronotek (40)
Total 385
Pricey, but deadly and crazy resilient. Obviously still has the well known option of being stuck in a GA for additional protection.
Some other options I've been fooling around with:
Swapping a Lancetek for a Veiltek so it can go hopping around the flanks and pew pew side armor (obviously using the veil in a defensive manner here).
Keeping as is but getting it a Scythe for similar reasons (pew pew side armor).
And of course having a couple of Solar Pulses fit in nicely with the unit design as well.
Anyway, a bit rambling. Kinda still just tossing ideas around on this as its a unit that doesn't fit with the Imo lists I've been running at all, but I know it has, in principle, gained some popularity so I was curios what variations and opinions others had come to actually using something similar.
