Can someone clarify the rules for Pink Horror's splitting into Blue? I played my friend recently and we were about to duke it out! He said he gets two blue for every pink i kill. Is that true? Are they immune to instant death? If he has a squad of 10 pink then he will eventually have 20 blue?

I tried to show him that it was just fluff and that there were no rules in the Daemon codex for blue horror's. So what is true? Tanks for the help.

AFAIK horrors do not do that anymore, although I believe they did in previous editions.

Just the bit of fluff about splitting, but that all it is just fluff.

The current chaos daemons codex expressly says they don't do that in the game. "For the sake of players' sanity, Pink Horrors splitting into two Blue Horrors is not represented in the rules."

Good luck with that. Someone pigheaded enough to insist on old rules might not take that well.

As far as I know two blue horrors were just one model on one base, with the same stats as pink horrors, not two models being a pink horror each.

I looked back at some old books and as far as I can tell pink horrors have never split into two blue horrors upon getting killed in the entire history of 40k. The game rules haven't recognized a difference between pink horrors and blue horrors at all since 2nd edition. Maybe he's getting it from Fantasy?

As pointed out, the act of Horrors splitting up is purely fluff, and is intentionally not represented in any way within the rules.

Just get him to hand over his Daemons codex, and point him towards the ruling on the Horror's page (I believe that's where it's stated).

In the fantasy book it says you can model 2 Blue horrors on the same base to be the same as a pink one but they do say not to split them, I assume they did the same thing for 40K

They did do the same in early 40k (Certainly after Realm of chaos/Slaves to darkness) and probably up to 2nd ed (I've not looked at the rules for them in about 20 years and played maybe 3 games of 2nd ed in the 5 years or so it was out for).

Hasn't been part of their rules in the last two versions of 40k at least (and not in Fantasy for a couple of editions at least either).


Is your rulebook the hardcover or the little one? If the former, introduce it to him (with some force) until he learns.

Not 20 yrs old, but yes Fantasy 6th Ed IIRC, the pink horrors split into 2 blue horrors.

So more like 5-7yrs

No, they were two separate models, with slightly lower stats to the pink horror.

They did in 2nd edition. 3rd edition combined them all into generic Daemon Packs.
