I preshaded my vehicle and now I am ready to apply a layer of main colour on it.

My main colour is VGC Bone White. However, it clogs in my airbrush (0.3 needle) with almost every spray. What would be the thinner mix that you recommend to get this colour worked in an airbrush?

I am currently using 1:1 Vallejo Thinner Medium : Vallejo Game Colour Bone White.

With most colors I use windex, however with whites especially in the VJ line I found that my thinners( windex, and tamiya thinner) would cause the paint to clump when it was added. I use a flow improver mixture now with the recommended mix of water and flo improver and a dash of retarder to thin my whites. Hopefully that rings true with your color as well.
Good Luck

I am currently using a 9:1 water:liquidtex flow aid as my flow improver.

What ratio do you use for your flo improver mix and paint that you use?

I use 20:1 flow aid as per the bottle and 20 drops of slo dry. per 20 oz mix. ( I mix in water bottles) 1 drop per oz.

I use the VGC bonewhite quite a bit as I paint my Angels of Absolution (it's the primary color of the army). I use an Iwata airbrush with a small needle as well.

I've found that the Vallejo thinner is too thick! I use almost exclusively a 10:1 distilled water to flowaid mix as my thinner and it works out great. The exact ratio of paint:thinner escapes me right now, however my general rule of thumb is to mix it in a clear container (little Tamiya mixing cups are amazing) and once it coats the insides with a thin, see-through, colored layer I'm ready to spray. It typically ends up being more thinner than paint as the VGC is quite thick.

Short answer - use water not Vallejo thinner as it's too thick.

Awesome. Thanks Millicant. Wish that you would have some pix of your AoA on the gallery. I will try the flow aid mix later on and post here and mix that works for me.

dont use bone white, use light brown highlighted with white.

if you really wanna use the bone white, be sure to open the buttle (you can get out the dropper tip) and stir up the paint really good!
then instead of shaking, roll the paint between your hands to mix it up (and warm it up, the bonewhite pigment mixes better at body temp)

I have to admit i have used the VGC thinner with my airbrush using bone white and never had a problem with it, but then, i do mix the paint/thinner in a plastic shot glass, don't know about the USA but in the UK you can get 40 for £1 in a well known pound store
they really are invaluable!

I tried to no avail to get the right mix for VGC Bonewhite with a Liquidtex flowaid medium (10:1 flowaid:water).

I tried 1:1 Bone white:flow aid mix and it is too thick. I tried 3:2 Bone white:flow aid and it is too thin, I don't get any coverage and stay a bit will create dripping over spray. I am spraying at 25 psi.

I think I will try dropping down to 15 psi with a 1:2 bone white:flow aid mix next time.

So far no luck. :(
