Finally got round to taking some photos, been really meaning to for ages.

First up is my Dreadknight, got it cheap on Ebay and gave it a quick repaint to fit in with my other Grey Knights. It was surprisingly easy to paint it fully assembled.

Next is my Mortis Pattern Contemptor Dreadnought. Officially Grey Knights can't use these so in games it's just a normal dreadnought.

And a couple of other photos

Here's a group shot of my still undefeated 1500 point army (without Land Raider as I've still got to start painting it) - shows how big Dreadknights really are.

Very nice work, especially the Mortis Contemptor. The green NFW's are also a nice extraordinary touch

They look great, though a bit dull. Even dirty, used armor should have some shiny bits where the grime gets rubbed off. I really think some silver edging or drybrushing would go a long way.

Still, they look great.

You Gotta paint that land raider so we can see the full effect!

The fluff is there to support the game and the hobby, not the other way around!

How did you do the green force weapons? Would love to be able to get that effect with mine. If its not a trade secret or anything. Lol

Thanks for the compliments. They were painted pretty quickly so I wasn't using an all plastic coloured army, much prefer gaming with a fully painted army.

@Slimsworkshop - Yeah it's next on my list, aside from an entry for a local painting competition and a couple of commission pieces. I'm also going to be making a display board for the finished army with a big radar station in 1 corner.

@Oni - Thanks, I felt the mostly silver and grey contrasted well against the green power weapons and the red daemon-world bases.

@Dragoons - It's really simple, paint the sword in a white/off white colour first, I used Dheneb Stone, do 2 layers so you get a nice solid colour. Then a thin layer of Scorpion Green. Once that's dry then it's just a case of adding a very thin line of Dheneb Stone or similar on all the edges.

Most armies I've seen they're blended blue weapons and I wanted to do something different colour wise and something much quicker and easier to get them done sooner for gaming.

This is how I would imagine them looking in a more realistic setting. I love it, they look esp good in the pic as a whole force.

If you get some time later on I think you should brighten up the eyes a bit more, it would look even better with a real contrasting blue in the eyes.

Very nice job!

These are really nice and gritty, but i would like some areas of colour to break up the metallics a bit more. Otherwise really nice!

Cheers Tom, I've finished the Land Raider now so now's probably the best time to go over them again and make some changes if I do.

I'll probably make the eyes more of a focal point and like you suggested work some more colour into them but it's figuring out where.

A pre-heresy dreadnaught in a post-heresy army? Someone better have some good fluff on how this is possible.
I know the grey knights can pretty much get whatever they want, but why get a old dreadnaught when the new ones are much stronger?

interesting color choice going with green for the power weapons instead of the traditional blue of the knights. But I think it turned out real nice....amazing how changing a color like that can totally alter the presentation of the army. I also like your weathered metallics....great looking armor!

Because they thought they look cooler. Plus if it's survived that long then it must be pretty robust.

Cheers guys, got a land raider and some death cult assassins to photo when I get round to it. The army is up to 1,750 points now so probably won't be adding to it anymore and get started on the aop board for them.

Back again with an update, finally got round to getting some photos, they aren't very good though I'm afraid. Now all fully painted 1800 points.

First up are 10 Death Cult Assassins made from Dark Eldar Wyches, much cheaper to buy and means there's more than 2 different poses. And as they're power weapons, figured I'd paint them all green to match the others.

Inquisitor Coteaz

And finally the Land Raider

Tried to get a haf decent group shot but it was harder than expect so just took one of them sat on my shelf.

Wow, these are fantastic. I actually really like the way they are now without any glaring highlights. It might break up the colors but I feel you'd lose a lot of the realistic look you got going and I'm a sucker for gritty/realistic painting might be better off calling them steel knights though cause that's what they look like they are made out of and it looks awesome.

I love the gritty look to the armor and I love your NFW....considering my grey knights have similar green swords although now they feel a bit less special

Whoah, I love the monochrome approached used on the Grey Knights units in the first post. The rendition is similar to the ones used in the movies 300 and Sucker Punch.

Did you mix some earth color to Boltgun Metal?

Cheers people.

@Miindhaze - I bought it on Ebay and that's the head it came with, I'm no good at painting faces so was perfect for me.

The armour was just boltgun metal and then sepia wash followed by black wash. No tricks or anything special. With the larger models the washes were sponged on rather than applied with brushes but that's it. Quick, easy and effective. Next army is in the post, doing some space wolves but will be in a smiliar style to these and will be dark grey instead of the usual SW colours.
