I had a quick question on the tesla destructors from the new necrons. So it says in the codex that any unit friendly or not takes D6 str 5 ap- hits if you roll a six. So on the Necron night scyth it has a twin linked tesla destructor so dose my buddy get to re-roll the dice when determining if a unit was hit by the special rule.

Also I would really like to know how do you determine which facing of the vehicle gets hit from the unit that shot of from the unit that got shot??

The tesla arc is after you hit and only for one hit so no re -roll

As for facings i and my mates always play it as arcing from the target so we use the facing the target is in

The Necron FAQ says to determine facings from the firing unit, not the target.

But are you sure he may not re roll. You are rolling to hit are you not? I dono I'm just confused but I will check out the necron FAQ on that.

You may not reroll. You're not rolling to hit, you're rolling to see how many hits you have.

No re-roll on this one. And as the Infinite mentioned, facing is determined from the firing unit. Although this really does not make any sense in my opinion.

Yes the FAQ does say that but it makes no sense to me ! so we use a house rule to arc from the target not the gun which does make sense, but if you play the rules to the letter the FAQ wins

You are not even rolling to see how many hits you have yet.

You are rolling to see if a special rule is activated.

You then roll to see how many hits you have(which also cannot be effected by twin-linked because it is still not rolling 6 dice to-hit, but a single d6 to determine the number of hits)

Snakel: this is "You make the call"; not "How do you play it". Frankly we do not care how you are your friends have house-ruled a clarified rule; we care that the FAQ specifically tells us how to handle the situation(if it were still left open for interpretation, or no clear handling of the rule exists, then we each give accounts of how we would play the muddy rule).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

That's not a bad house rule at all. I'd guess the main reason they decided to go the other way in the FAQ is that the target unit isn't a point source, ie, there'd be some situations where determining facing from a dispersed target unit would be ambiguous.

i think they did it so people couldnt try and shoot a unit in the open to arc into units behind cover and bypass the cover

Theirs lots of reasons they will have FAQ'ed it that way but we try to use the rules with a little realism

Some rules really are there to be bent if you all agree and that's the key.

Personally i think needing 6 then getting 6 d6 hits is a low chance on sniping a unit in cover or such ,plus at AP- its a mute point lol

The facing thing make perfect sense. The arcing doesn't actually come from the unit but from stray lighting bolts from when the gun shot the unit in the first place. It just makes a big cone of lightning that sometimes doesn't all land where you want it to.

And the fact that it only arcs if the target survives? How does that decrease the cone of lightning?
(fluffwise anyway... I'm in the camp of "It's far far far easier to say the shot comes from the firing vehicle rather than trying to determine arc from a unit with the potential to be 20ish inches wide")

Yeah, it says they "leap from target to target" (Annihilation Barge fluff)

Thanks for all the feedback. I will be playing the rule for the facing to FAQ standard, just because my buddy and I are in our competition team so we have to play everything to the word.

But I've been getting some mixed awnsers when it comes to seeing if the arc "activates" to hit the units around the target you just shot at..... Ok so you are determining if a unit gets hit??? So would you benefit from the weapons TL rule?? And if not why?

No. You're not rolling to hit, you're rolling to see if the weapon arcs. If it does arc (on a 6) you then roll to see how many times it arcs.
Twin-linked doesn't benefit a roll to see if you arc, nor does it benefit a roll to see how many times you arc.

The arc comes after you hit not when you shoot ,so you cant TL a hit so no re-roll
