Just been nosing about on FW for some more units to build up my forces with some more "interesting" stuff and stumbled across the Tauros Venator ATV.
I was thinking it looks pretty cool (and very different to the normal Sentinels plus the advantage of the TL multi-lasers/lascannons) so wondering what people's opinions are on taking a squad of these instead of a squad of Sentinels?
Not sure but i think it works out a 65 pts vs 50-70 pts for a lascannon Sentinel (depending on variant)?

No. They look nothing like walkers, are far lower down and have entirely separate rules.

They are in Imperial Armour Apocalypse 2nd Edition as a unit for Imperial Guard to take as Fast Attack.
It would actually be 55 pts for a Tauros Venator with TL Lascannons. Av 11/10/10 etc

I'd be fine with you using them as Sentinels, but I'd rather you used them as Tauros Venator ATV's. But then, my group is Pro-Forge World.

Oh I was planning to use them as Tauros ATVs but I wanted to know what people thought of using them as a Fast attack choice instead of sticking to the GW standard of Sentinels.
I think I prefer the look of the Venators compared to the Sentinels but as I am a newbie I didnt know if people had used them and if they were a good Fast Attack choice.
Will need to get the book with them in I think!

I don't think he was trying to proxy the tauros for sentinels, or make them counts as. I think he was asking if it would be alright to swap them in as a fast attack choice in place of sentinels.
Ask whomever you are playing. Only they can tell you if they will allow it.

Tauros and Salamanders are both interesting FA choices compared to Sentinels. They're faster but much more vulnerable to being assaulted.

I think i will be getting them then, plus a couple of Sentinels for people who won't let me play them (but I will be difficult and get the Elysian version for the other two).
I think I would rather have the slightly more expensive Venator than a Sentinel with a LC.

If you're asking if you can use a Forgeworld unit with Forgeworld rules in a standard game of 40k, as long as it's not a superheavy, that's fine. I'd be happy to fight against an unusual unit like that.

Depends on your opponent. Some people are vehemently opposed to allowing anyone to play Forge world units in games with them.
I wouldn't mind in the least...

Ah ok. Just have to hope I don't play against someone who is strict with the codexes then.
Why are some people opposed to the FW stuff then?

It is a combination of a few things: People thinking every forge world is really apocalypse scale, which it isn't, and also a lack of knowledge about the units. There are whole threads on the topic which cannot be replicated here, but some people don't care as long as you aren't trying to bring an apocalypse unit into a regular scale game and you have the rules available for them to read if they would like. Some FW opponents have the attitude that it is solely up to them if you use forge world and you should just shut up and accept it when they tell you that you can't. Of course usually for me that kind of attitude means finding another opponent, but YMMV. There are a few units that are undercosted for their abilities and people use them as a broad brush to paint the entire range. I play chaos and have a lot of the chaos forge world models in my forces. None of them have won me games on their own, been indestructible because of their own rules or caused so much havoc and were dirt cheap.

I would love to see the Tauros Venator on the field. IMHO it's one of the most beautiful models in the Fast Attact FOC of the Imperial Guard, arguably moreso even than the Vendetta and Valkyrie.
Funny how that can be said about a lot of Forgeworld gear.

If you are using forgeworld though, I'd at the very least inform your opponant before the game starts. Just good courtesy and all.

Do a search sometime on the forum about using Forge World in normal games. Those threads go for pages and pages until they get locked. To be fair to both sides: There are people that like them and people that hate them, and then there are people that take a middle ground. Play with like-minded people when you can to avoid drama.

well I have two on their way to a new home, plus two Elysian Drop Sentinels (3 Sentinel squad with the stock GW model as the "command" unit). Plus a Spartan and two Proteus but they are for something else entirely.
Makes more sense to me in a PDF force like mine, its the sort of thing i would expect to see more in the PDF - cheaper / easier to build and maintain plus something the Munitorium is less likely to be taking off-world for the Guard than something like a Russ or Chimera.
