While I really like the paintjob an awefull lot, blending, osl and weathering are top notch, I do think it looks a bit "barren". However I'm not sure that that is just because most painters I see(including myself) are used to put insignia's and the like on most of the flat surfaces.
Anyway really nice work, thx for sharing

The color work is brilliant, but I agree with Fiddler; it needs something to break up all the blue. The hydraulics in his legs should be metal (given your skill, I'm sure it would be NMM though!) and some of the sarcophagus could be lined in gold. These are the Ultramarines, you know... they love to paint things gold!
Awesome work, none the less though! Oh, the base is awesome too.

Awesome paint job! and i do mean that!
BUT...again, no markings to designate it as Ultramarines, the base and OSL are terrific as are all the scrapes and damage!

I like it without markings and gold myself it looks a lot subtler which is an interesting look for a multi-ton walking tank... The cables/hydraulics to need to be done though, which is my only reservation about this. Edit: Looking a second time they cables and such are done but they seem very grey, i'd go more metallic myself but it does add to the subtlety.

The osl on the melts arm does not look quite right, the reflection seems a bit brighter than the source itself. Otherwise a great job on the blending on the armour.

I really like the overall look. However, the OSL is quite a bit overdone. It really takes alot away from an otherwise decent piece.

I think the OSL is a little off, as well. I'm not sure what would make it look right, but it doesn't look quite finished. Great job otherwise, though. He's got some great weathering on him, in particular.

Beautiful paint job, the weathering is awesome.
On a side note, I think it looks cool, but not a major fan of OSL. I don't think I'd ever use it on my models personally. Funny enough, I think I'd rather do the work and put a real LED in there

No I'm just kidding. It looks as though it's professionally done and it's truly amazing. I've always wondered if anyone has actually been ripped into for even a sub-par paint job, so why not lie once to someone who know's they've done a fantastic job?
Again, great job.

kind of a thing to make it more interesting looking.
armor plates are colored in the army heraldry, but mechanical parts are usually just bare metal.
the base is also really awesome!
i see that your skill is amazing, but try to make it a bit more visually interesting.
what did you use to paint before you started WH?

This is a ultra-high quality paint job.
if I take the OP's word that this is his first 40k fig, perhaps it's because he's new to the models that he forgot to drill out the holes. That unfamiliarity as well led him to leave the Dread devoid of any markings and decided to paint the entire thing blue.
I don't see it as an Ultramarines Dread for that reason, but it IS a beautifully executed BLUE Dreadnought.

That's a really nice dread as others have pointed out it would be even better with a chapter symbol.
Also if its meant for gaming its the wrong base, should be 60mm round. For some reason it does detract the effect for me.

Many thanks for all comments and advices
I'm gonna surely have attention to them with my next dread - this one is already sold on ebay, so I can't fix mistakes
Answering:
Rhich - this is standard AoBR dread, I've only covered inner sides of arms with pieces of plastic
DijnsK - before I started WH I was painting historical AFV models and figures - some of them can be seen on my webpage
Fexor - base color and first simple shadowing was made with airbrush - other else is brush

Your weathering is superb and the armoured plates are looking outstanding.
But to me this looks like a work in progress pic. Wanna know why? You simply did not pick out a lot of details. There are so many parts that should be metal, the wiring shouldn't be blue either.
It's a shame, and I would highly recommend to take your time and do a little bit more to make this model a real masterpiece.

This dreadnought is technically awesome. Theres alot of skill there and it shows. Howver it seems kind of bland to me. Theres no company colors on it, and I personally like my Ultramarines to have a lot of gold on it. You might want to consider adding some gold or red to really make it pop.
