On impulse, I dropped a pile of money on the Kickstarter, and am anxiously awaiting a sparkly new Orc army. I have been skimming the rules, and they look simple and possibly elegant, but there are a couple of things I don't quite get.

1) When a unit takes damage, do you remove models or does the unit keep fighting at full strength until it's routed?

2) When a unit fails its nerve roll and wavers, does it stay wavered or can it recover its nerve?

These are newbie questions, I know, but I don't want years of WHFB to lead to misinterpretaion of the rules.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Finally finished my LoER contest entry. With a couple of bonus Vanguard models as well..

Painting total as of 6/16/2019: 51 plus a wooden bridge and gnoll encampment and 28 pieces of Mantic scatter terrain and three fly holes and three farm buildings and a fire pit.

1 - KoW is a unit game. Figures remain with the unit until the end.

2 - The rules are not very clear. I think wavering lasts for 1 turn, then the unit can act again.

They are going to release the 3rd edition at the end of June so maybe they will solve this.

Keep up the fight!

1) You don't remove models from units, you add damage counters to the unit instead. Units fight at full effectiveness until they are routed.

2) The effects of Wavering (can't march, charge or shoot) last for one turn, after that the unit acts normally. The rules say "in its next movement/shooting phase", which definitely means that it it lasts for one turn only.

Kings of War is a very different game to warhammer, but also much more tactical, easier to learn and with much less fiddly stuff to remember.. games play much more quickly and there is a very strong emphasis on using battlefield tactics to win, rather than building a "combo army list of doom with giant infantry bunkers" as warhammer tends to encourage.

Enjoy your stuff from the kickstarter, and have fun playing! You won't regret it, I've never met someone in person who played KoW and didn't like it.

Warpath rules are a bit shaky currently, but you can't go wrong with Kings of War, it is a great game which is about to get even better (3rd edition rulebook will have magic items, and rules for sieges and campaigns).

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Your explanations make perfect sense. Hopefully the next version of the rules will be a little more explicit.

I look forward to actually trying out this game!

As far as I know, I'm the only miniatures gamer in this whole region. I have a friend down near Kyoto who I game with once or twice a year. I'll get him to play with me.
