Hey Everyone,

I am planning to strip all my Blood angels stuff and will be painting my own custom chapter which is basically a mix of Raven Guard and Blood Angels (Blood Guard, I know I am very creative).

Lets say I use Raven Guard Icons but play a game as Blood angels. Is that something most people would frown upon? I mostly focus on modelling/painting but I want to start playing a lot more once I get my first little group painted. Would it be better to just create my own icon or mash the two chapters together somehow?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thats fine, as long as they aren't exactly the same as the ravenguard its fine.

To me this would fall under the ever present category of something that's up to the discretion of your opponent.

But honestly I imagine 99% would have no problem with it (especially if we're talking just friendly games) as long as they know what Codex you're playing them as and what the models are supposed to be.

And if you do run across that 1% that might not want to play you simply because your marines are a different color or have a different icon then that's their choice.

Yeah, it's their choice to be tetchy about it, like sydewynder said. And honestly, if they're going to make that choice, you're better off not playing with them.

Thanks guys, I figured it wouldn't be a big deal but better to check before I start up on this force.

Children chapters often use the iconography of their parent chapters. Heraldry is a combination of coloring and iconography, so a child chapter can change their color scheme (often called the 'field') while maintaining the same iconography and still have unique heraldry.

So an omega on a blue field (ultramarine), an omega on a red field, and an omega on a red and yellow quartered field all form unique iconography.

In this way a child chapter can pay homage to their roots while still maintaining unique heraldry. And a painter can use pre-existing decals on a different paint job and while maintaining the fluff. Huzzah!

GW often say that making up Chapters is part of the hobby. As long as you are clear about which miniatures represent which unit allocation and they are WYSIWYG, you are plain sailing.

There should be NO QUESTION about playing a different coloured Blood Angel army... as long as everything looks how it should but happens to have different icons/colours.
