Hi there this is my 1500 point high elf army, the players im playing games with a fair amount of terrain and against orcs and goblin army where magic is pretty heavy, so i've decided to try out my dragon mage as the fire lore can be effective against his low toughness mainly goblin force so i think the fairly tough sun dragon also is a effective choice here. My main battle plan is to run my dragon down right or left flank and my eagle and dps down opposing flank to attck fast cav / war machine hunt., Then Spear units and SM's head up middle into the fray off his bolt and stone throwers.

Combine the Swordsmasters and take a standard at the very least. A champ with the skeinsliver could work.

well my thoughts for the sword masters are to be support for spears and to give flanking support, so my thinking was two small groups and this way they are not wasted in ranks where back cannot attack, which is a waste i think, when i could have two mobile units getting all their attacks in

Swordsmasters are not support units. They should be charging in the front with the spears in the flank to negate steadfast.

20 is too small IMO. 25 allows you to soak up a few more wounds.

And flanking doesn't negate steadfast. The ONLY way to negate Steadfast is to have it yourself, which means more ranks than the enemy, and for HE that will almost never happen

Even then, it means little if they are stubborn, which is basically what steadfast is.

If you play the way I do, you can negate steadfast. With my unit of 50 sea guard.....

IMO, 50 for Seaguard is way too much. Considering that we do even field them (many swear by them, others (majority) - consider them subpar or overpriced, or both), 28 is considered to be the most optimum size for LSG. ~ 35 is the optimum size for Spearmen. Now, go negate the steadfast on 100 goblins.

It is a fluffy army. Based on an elven armada. I never once stated that it was effective.
