I just was just forced in trying Warmachine and I'm loving it. I picked up the Menoth battle box and I've been trying to think of my next unit to buy that is really good. Ive heard that Exemplar Errants are just amazing from the people at my hobby store. What I was really looking at though were the Exemplar Bastions because they look like 40K Grey Knight Terminators. Which of these choices are more $ and point efficient and what are your guys experience with these units? Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Castellan Crowe used to be good, then he took a Lascannon to the face.

To get to 15 points, I'd suggest you pick up the Choir and a Vassal of Menoth. These are great utility models that take your slightly-mediocre 'jacks and make them great.

Then play with that for a bit, then move up to 25. If you want Bastions, I would believe (not being a Menoth player myself) that they're a decent mix with pKreoss (being included in the 2-player set and all). Defender's Ward will make those Bastions even harder to kill, making them a decent tarpit unit.

Errants are great thanks to the fact that their crossbows both ignore bonuses to DEF and ARM, and are magical. Then you've got their P+S 9 (I think) weapon that hits with 3d6 damage thanks to weapon master. Then you get Advanced Deployment, and if that wasn't enough, Fearless to boot. And Self-Sacrifice can add in additional headaches for your opponent as well.

Choir is awesome, it should always be the 2nd thing a new Menoth player buys after a battlebox/2p BB.

The above suggestion of a Vassal is a good one. Any of the infantry is a good choice, which is one of the things I love about WM, there aren't many if any "stinker" units in the game. I first expanded with Temple Flameguard myself, because they're cheap (pointswise), which helped for trying out more stuff as I was playing in a Journeyman league, and I had made a good deal on a bunch of used stuff. Bastions came soon after and I really liked them, and they're really cool looking models to boot.

Choir & Vassal are priority #1. They're auto-includes in any list with 2 or more 'Jacks, and only get better and better the more you learn the game and when to apply their abilities. Get them quickly, use them obsessively.

As for Bastions vs Errants, I'd go with Errants. I too made Bastions my first troop purchase because of just how awesome they look, and the ability to spread damage sounded great. Unfortunately they're harder to use in practice.

They bring a lot of what you've always already got on the table as a menite: Slow, Hits Hard. While they do a moderately good job at absorbing damage, they're terrible at avoiding it (no real defensive tricks, low def, mediocre ARM) and they have almost no mobility. They've certainly got their uses but work better with Harbinger (solves their speed issue, martyrdom is worth more on valuable models like them) or Vindi (solves their speed issue).

Errants are an awesome unit that bring more to most lists *IF THEY HAVE THE UA*. The UA makes Errants. They're far more mobile, +1 SPD, Pathfinder, Advanced Deployment. They have more bodies so they influence your board position more. They hit almost as hard, and you'll get the same or more punch per point against anything under ARM 17. They've also got ranged attacks for extra versatility. Being untargetable by spells is also huge on a front line unit, particularly if you're shielding your 'jacks as well. Like bastions they really want defender's ward, and there may be better choices without it.

I'd look into Temple Flamegaurd or Holy Zealots if you want something that is going to be a solid choice with every single caster (even if they aren't the top choice with every single one).

Get some solos,

Choirs gives the 'jacks loads of boosts
And the vassal of menoth gives them extra attacks.

Then go for some cinerators because when one enemy dies loads more burn with it....

Re Cinerators:Only if they are bunched up in a tight ball will loads more burn with it since the range on it is only 1". Not really worth it to be honest.

Bastions are ok if you are playing against infantry armies or something that can't reliably dish out massive damage a turn (thresher) to the whole unit. You'll go further with Errants + UA.

Opening up across all units though, I'd say either Zealots or Daughters of the Flame first. Zealots are about the best jamming/tarpit unit going with the UA because they become immune to all damage (with the UA mini-feat) that isn't feat related on that turn. Daughters are pretty much death to infantry and can jam really well.

For pKreoss specifically, Deliverers are very nice with his feat.

So, what would be the opinion on harbinger plus high paladin solo, with 3 paladin solos and a squad of cinerators backed by two crusaders (the jack with the flame belcher)

When your wife suggests roleplay as a result of your table top gaming... life just seems right

I took my wife thru the BRB for fantasy and 40k, the first thing she said was "AWESOME"... codex: Chaos Daemons Nurgle..... to all those who says God aint real....

I'd go with Errants + UA, Zealots, and Daughters personally with Harby. Her feat is one of the best area denial lists so having a units that can get out and continue that denial is pretty strong for scenario play and Martyrdom is always good at keeping them alive. I wouldn't use the Cinerators with her to be honest. Crusaders are the heavy jacks with the mace and open fist. The Repenter is the flame thrower light jack with the flail. Her feat lets you keep infantry at bay or die on turn 1 to set up the zealots for a turn 2 tarpit or camping of an objective and the Daughters and the errants to start killing on turn 2.

2 Crusaders

The sink.

You need a choir and a vassal. A vanquisher might be good, too. It has a great gun and you can shoot it twice per turn with the vassal.

So I went with the Choir but to my disbelief the package was missing one mini, all their staffs were warped, and the cross's on the top of the staffs were ripped off. I think I'm going to go with Errants after that experience .

Put in a call to PP customer service, they're very good about replacing things like that, which while it's a hassle, happens occasionally. I ended up snapping more than one of the menofixes off my Choir just because I got tired of pinning them back on.
