Pre-Game Analysis

Last time I played against Dave's Lol Knights with my 'Crons, the Wraiths chewed up everything. When a Terminator unit deep striked the Wraiths just moved up and assaulted and that was the end of that. Now Dave has quite a terrain heavy board (still 25%), it's made up of lots of little bits of area terrain and hardly any tall terrain, which means I probably won't get any cover saves for my big ass Ghost Arks. Also, Dave may not be deep striking, though he does have servo skulls and terrain scatter isn't too bad as he has a invulnerable save, though it's not that awesome.

Game: Annihilation & Pitched Battle

Deployment

I win the roll off and decide to go first, I've found out that Dave isn't deep striking and I doubt he'll be using combat squads as we're playing kill points. So some first turn shooty shooty and solar pulse would be excellent, also my Wraiths can get that bit closer. I guess thinking about it now it perhaps would have been better if Dave would have gone first as he probably would have come towards me.

I deploy in the centre in my usual formation; Wraiths at the front, Ghost Arks on sideways, CCBs and A.B's behind with a CCB on each flank. Unit of Warriors on foot are in reserve.

Dave deploys putting all his Grey Knights top left flank, he bunches them up keeping his army together and the Stormraven is right at the back, inside are the Purifiers and Librarian. Vindicare has deployed in a small ruin top left corner.

* Tactical Notes

Ok, so Dave has kept his distance with the bulk of his army and the Stormraven is at the back, which some of my lances will be out of range. I've also got to cross the heavy terrain centre area, which will be multiple terrain tests for my vehicles, at least the Ghost Arks anyway.

Plan will be to move up the full distance with Annihilation Barges while the CCB's zoom up, Ghost Arks will move up 6" and use lances to blast the Stormraven and gauss flayers on the Interceptors seems they are at the front the easiest to kill foot unit, besides the Vindicare.

Turn 1

I move both Wraith units 12" though don't bother running them as it's possible the Interceptors can assault me, and I don't want that. CCBs zoom up each flank of the board while all Annihilation Barges move up 12", though they use the Ghost Arks for cover and will still have to move up 6" next turn to ensure they're in range.

Shooting; two units of Crypteks from Ghost Arks blast the Stormraven and do nothing. I fire the remaining two lances at the Vindicare as they will be out of range of the Ghost Ark plus the Vindicare is annoying; the Vindicare is gibbed. I think that's about it for me.

Dave's first turn; I activate my solar pulse so it goes extremely bright and the G.K are blinded by my evil xeno shenanigans. The Stormraven zooms forward flat out and stops right in front of my CCB on the left flank. Interceptors move up with Terminators following behind them as the other Terminator unit moves through terrain.

Shooting; Dave starts blasting and does well with his night fight rolls; one unit of Wraiths lose two models and another takes a wound. The CCB on the left flank is also slagged by melta and explodes - Overlord takes no damage and is not pinned.

Kill points - Necrons: 1 Grey Knights: 1

* Tactical Notes

Ok, not a too bad start and so far we're even stevens. I've killed the Vindicare, which is great as that little guy is seriously annoying. Dave has also taken out a CCB, which is annoying me as the Overlord is stuck in the middle of no where and has a Stormraven in his face, I expect the Overlord to be sucking on force weapons next turn and I've already written him off.

Next turn I'll pivot the Ghost Ark on the hill around so the Stormraven cannot get any sneaky rear shots in. I'll move the depleted Wraith unit up so they can tackle the Interceptors, though the operational CCB will sweep them along with gauss support to deplete their numbers. The full strength Wraith unit I'll hold back for counter assault as I expect those Terminators will pile in to support the Interceptors, which by the way I'll torrent with tesla.

Turn 2

The last CCB zooms across the Interceptors and sweeps them, two lose their heads - squad fail morale test and falls back 4", luckily my Wraiths were 1" away. Depleted Wraiths move up to assault the Interceptors while the full strength Wraiths lag behind. Ghost Arks navigate through the centre terrain field, one gets immobilised, while Annihilation Barges move up. Overlord on foot prepares to sell himself and moves out of the crater and hopes to assault the Stormraven.

Shooting; all three Annihilation Barges along with gauss flayers and lances torrent the Terminators supporting the Interceptors, after it's all said and done only three Terminators are left - they pass morale. That's it shooting wise.

Assault; Overlord charges the Stormraven and fails to hit it - he's dead next turn. Wraiths charge the Interceptors and only three left after combat, they remain locked.

Dave's second turn; he moves the now depleted Terminators to assist the Interceptors, while surprisingly the Stormraven moves 12" away from the Overlord and lands along side my Ghost Ark on the hill, Purifiers bail out, though they can only shoot as they are definitely out of assault range. The Inquisitor then splits from the Terminators ready to dakka the Overlord while the other Terminators move through terrain some more.

Shooting; the Stormraven splits fire and blasts the CCB with a lascannon, though fails to pen, while the multi melta and mindstrike missiles blasts the Wraiths, I think a single Wraith goes down. Purifiers and the whole Terminator unit follow up the hail of bullets and the Wraiths drop down to three strong. Inquisitor blasts the Overlord and shockling I fail two armour saves leaving the Overlord with a single wound.

Assault; Terminators pile into assault with the Interceptors, the Interceptors are wiped out this turn and two Terminators remain, Wraiths are fine.

Kill points - Necrons: 2 Grey Knights: 1

* Tactical Notes

Ok, Dave surprised me a bit as I would have thought he would have gone for the easy kill point and nailed the Necron Overlord. Instead I feel he has made a tactical mistake and brought those Purifiers right into the lions den, now I can blast the Purifiers with gauss flayers and the Wraiths assault what's left. I also feel Dave made another mistake splitting the Inquisitor from the unit, the Inquisitor is a few lance shots away from getting gibbed.

I cannot say I am perfect, I forgot to use my solar pulse!

Next turn I'll move the Ghost Ark by the Stormraven around so the single wound Overlord can jump in and join the Warriors. The CCB will sweep the Stormraven as the Overlord stands the best chance of doing the job while gauss flayers and tesla destructors will hammer the Purifiers. Lances will fire into the Stormraven if it remains, if not the Inquisitor will be instagibbed.

Turn 3

The Ghost Ark moves down off the hill and lands near the Overlord, the Overlord then jumps inside so he's protected. The CCB zooms back across towards my side of the board and sweeps the Stormraven, though fails to hit it. Annihilation Barges remain in position while the other Ghost Ark moves up to drop rapid fire gauss flayers on the Purifiers. Depleted Wraiths in the centre of the board move up to deal with the Purifiers, if there's any left..

Shooting; immobilised Ghost Ark and the operational Ghost Ark in the centre blast into the Purifiers with a single Warriors' support, two Annihilation Barges fire and only the Librarian remains - here we wasn't sure if the Librarian had to take morale test or not, I said he had lost 25% of the unit (the entire unit), Dave said he's not part of the unit any more. We just left it as not taking a morale test as the Libby would be getting up close and personal with the Wraiths anyway. Remaining Ghost Ark holding the Overlord and Annihilation Barge blast the full strength Terminators and deplete them down to seven - squad passes morale test. Lances and gauss flayers fire into the Inquisitor and he's instagibbed.

Assault; Wraiths and Terminators continue to slug it out. Unit of Wraiths in the centre charge the single Librairan, things go badly for the Wraiths as only two remain, though the Librarian only has a single wound.

Dave's turn; Stormraven moves 12" away towards the left table edge while the Terminators mooch through terrain ready to assault the Wraiths already engaged with the Terminators.

Shooting; Stormraven blasts the Ghost Ark holding the Overlord and only scores immobilised. That's it!

Assault; Terminators pile into the Wraiths, I think a single Wraith dies to force weapon wound, though the Terminators take heavy losses with one dying from the unit of two and the other unit now only has three Terminators left. Librarian kills another Wraith, one is left and still fighting on!

Kill points - Necrons: 4 Grey Knights: 2

* Tactical Notes

I've still got a nice lead on Dave, but due to his low amount of kill points a tabling is always almost on the cards to score a victory. He could easily gain two kill points at least with what he has remaining.

Next turn I'll sweep the Terminators to asssist the Wraiths while the single wound Overlord will bail out and attempt to assault the Stormraven, he's just insurance policy and everything will be going for the Stormraven.

Turn 4

Only movement is the CCB zooming over the Terminators engaged in combat and sweeping, though two pass invulnerable saves. The Overlord on foot bails out ready to assault the Stormraven.

Shooting; gauss and lances fire into the Stormraven and start to score damage, though the first Annihilation Barge to fire manages to wreck it.

Assault; Librarian gets ripped out by rending Wraith attacks while the solo Terminator engaged with the Wraiths with the other unit snuffs it, only three Terminaotrs remain now against three Wraiths.

So not shooting by Dave, straight onto assault, which is a draw, lol.

Kill points - Necrons: 6 Grey Knights: 2

* Tactical Notes

Well this game is firmly in the bag now, even if the Wraiths fail the Terminators do not have a fat lot to threaten me with and mass gun fire will bring them down a turn later.

Turn 5

Straight onto assault and the Wraiths kill another Terminator, though the Terminators hold in the fight. At this point I ask Dave if he wants to game on because he's got two models left and I don't play to table people, if it happens then it happens, if victory is clearly in sight then there's no point in going on. As Dave is hardcore we carry on, though the combat rages on. We roll for next turn and the game continues, though Dave throws in the towel at this point as it's clearly a Necron victory.

Summary

This game played out pretty much like last time, everything gets gunned down while Wraiths mop up. It's surprising the damage gauss flayers can do, but I do have a total off 100 gauss flayer shots plus the tesla destructors.

I think my only mistakes this game was forgetting about the second solar pulse, though any turn after wouldn't have mattered. I also totally forgot about my Warriors in reserve, never mind, I would have brought them in on the bottom right corner and Dave wouldn't have been able to touch them.

Dave played well, though I feel he made some mistakes which lead to me getting a kill point lead. Splitting the Inquisitor off was a bad idea, this let me easily gib him. I would have moved the Inquisitor else where possibly keep with the Terminators and string out the unit so the Inquisitor cannot pile in 6". I think the Purifiers and Librarian would have done better assaulting the Overlord on foot, this would have meant the Wraiths wouldn't have assaulted the surviving Librarian and two Ghost Arks wouldn't have fired at them due to range and also position of the immobilised Ghost Ark. The next sure the Purifiers could have got back into the Stormraven and moved away or assaulted the immobilised Ghost Ark which was close by.

OUCH!

That Newcron list is nasty, I'm looking at it against any of my 2k lists and shaking my head... you have some brutal and beautiful armies mercer, you crank them out quick too! Thanks for the report, having not faced the Newcrons I have only read the codex and battle reports to get a feel for them so far. Thanks!

In the Necron Codex (page 90) it states:
"Any number of crypteks that are in a royal court can be upgraded to a single, specific type of harbinger.
Whilst you can have ANY number of harbingers of a specific type (AKA all cryptecs be Harbingers of Despair for example) each of the harbinger's unique wargear option CAN ONLY BE USED ONCE IN EACH ROYAL COURT (see page 84). AKA if you take 5 Harbingers of Destruction crypteks you don't get 5x Eldritch Lances or NOT 5x Gaze of flame, or NOT 5x SOLAR PULSE.
Kind regards Chris.

I think you do get the lances (since they replace the staff of light by default), it is the special equipment like gaze or pulse you cannot replicate.

edit: unless i am confusing the lance with whatever the default upgrade happens to be

The special cryptec weapons replace the default weapons, so yes, you can have multiple lances. It's only the special upgrade options, ie: solar pulse, that you can only get once per court.
edit : Nice win BTW.

Yes you are indeed correct, by choosing a Cryptec type (Harbiger of something) you automaticaly exchange staff of light for the Harbinger specific staf, be it abyssal staff, Eldritch lance, Aeonstave etc.
So yes you can have 5x Tremorstave for Example.
My bad Sorry.

He had two Overlords, thus two courts, which mean two solar pulses are legal.

Thanks for the kind words, dude. The Necrons are almost finished now, just need some flock on the bases and need to finish off my three Cryptek conversions, which I wish I had just used Warriors and done head swaps with, ah well.
