I will give my opinion, but I am curious about what the rest of dakka thinks. This is inspired by a thread I was reading the other day and people were talking about Cortana.

Best: Assault on the Control Room from Halo 1

Worst: Library with Cortana running a very close second

Best: I liked the first level from Halo 3... Sierra 117 I think it's called...

Worst: Cortana. Seriously, feth that level. I still have bad memories about getting lost in all the identical, flesh toned tunnels with the sphincter doors.

Hrmm, that's a tricky one.

Best for story? The Covenant. That first attack on the towers, followed by the rush to the activation room with the Flood, watching the Arbiter kill Truth and then seeing Halo 00 rise up before you to an even more grandiose version of the main theme was simply spectacular.

Best for atmosphere? New Alexandria. There's something poignant about seeing your lone Spartan drifting above the ruined city in the darkness in a Pelican. Having massive ships start glassing the rubble in the distance, slowly getting closer puts the conflict into perspective. Kat's death was just shocking. Disco grunts and DJ'ing brutes also help.

Best for gameplay? Impossible to judge conclusively. Obligatory sniper mission in the dark version one is probably the best though.

There are no bad missions in Halo. I like playing them all.

Well except for The Library. That can burn and die.

Worst- Cortana

Boring, repetitive, frustrating. The Flood are stupid enemies. Missions revolving around them are stupid. Tight corridors and bland environments, with constant never-changing waves of the same mobs are not fun to play.

Flood headshotting you from above with rocket launchers ?

Worst: Library, kept getting lost!

Best: Assault on control room, no, fething, contest.

Pretty much any part of the game that was indoors was like that...

but that was the only part that was completely fighting the flood for the entire level which sucked imho, i have never liked all flood levels in any of the games

I loved the living hell out of The Silent Cartographer in Halo 1. I really liked levels where you had lots of Marine allies running around; they're my favorites in all of the Halo games.

The Library and Cortana are the worst in the series. I've never liked Flood levels (like the one in the swamp in Halo 1 where you start with a dozen Marines and they die when a bunch of tiny evil balloons that normally die in one bullet run into them. Was a shame; I would have loved either a Vietnam-esque mission skulking around the swamps or an Aliens/Predator type mission where we're getting stalked by baddies and the Marines die one by one.

that is the reason why I love Assault on the Control Room(alot of marines), but I liked the part at the end of 343 Guilty Spark where you run through the jungle with all the marines, me and my brother always try to save as many as we can, i think 3 is our record on normal...

'Arbiter' From Halo 2 is my favourite. I think it really gave you alot of room for Improvisation and brought new tactics to the fore with your Active camo, the Energy sword and the large amount of Explodey things. Assault on the control room is a close second though.

Least favourite level? Probably Cortana or to give an Oddball one: 'Tsavo Highway', it just threw hundreds of Brute chopper bikes at you over and over. Was pretty boring just driving lazy circles around and around in the warthog. In general Halo 3 for me was the least fun campaign, for me i spent most the time scrounging for ammo and doing far too much Vehicle stuff. Also the Brutes in 3 would just either wear you down with attrition or Get a lucky shot, they werent any fun to fight.

i think the brutes were decent enemies, but they can never hope to compare to elites

Best Missions Halo Reaches Space Level.

Worst: Cortana- It's just....so bad.
Best: The Citadel- Two Scarabs, lots of allies and enemies, GREEN PHANTOMS!

I too disliked Tsavo Highway, but I think my personal favourite (having played and completed every single Halo game, so I'm no N00B ) was the Ark, as it was the closest thing halo got to an honest to God tank battle a la Kursk. That, and before you get tanks, its always fun to try and protect the marines you fight alongside....

Hmm, i'd have to refresh my memory a bit, but I do have a disliking for Keyes, The Maw, and Cortana. My favourites range from The Truth and Reconcilliation to Halo, Assault on the Control Room through to Metropolis and the subsequent Delta Halo levels.

Nothing from H3 really leaps out at me as a favourite, and nothing from H2 as a non-favourite.

I too am a big fan of Halo 2's campaign, defo my fave overall.

Best: I actuall found the dark mood of ODST my favorite, but the best level was the Covenant. Just so...... epic.

Worst: Cortana. Fething terrible. I remember getting lost in that mission for two fething whole hours.

Except for the gas platform in Halo 2. I freaking LOVE those levels. Also the first Flood level in Halo 1 was fun.

Second the library and Cortana, those levels can feth right off

Any time after the first time you fight the flood its boring, I've never liked them and never like the aesthetics for flood missions
