Hey. Long time wargames player and between the GW price hikes and the PP summer deals I'm being enticed into starting a new game system. I have a few easy questions for some seasoned players though before I make the leap. I have done my homework on factions and have narrowed it down to Legion of Everblight as my top pick. As if the eyeless dragons weren't enough, as you might notice from my signature I love me some (frost) elves. I read a real good article on 3++ is the new black detailing the effectiveness and longevity of each starter bundle but I hate to put all my eggs in one basket and wanted a second opinion.

First question is, with the starter box is the Carnivean just a Carnivean or does it have the full plastic kit that could I make a Ravagore out of? I like the look of the Ravagore and it looks pretty simple to magnetize them for arm/head swapping goodness. If that is not the case I am considering buying from somewhere else and ignoring the bundle unless there is somewhere I can purchase just the arms/heads by themselves?. A free rulebook is nice, but I have a friend getting the Cryx Bundle with a rulebook and I'd rather get models I want than get cheaper models I don't. The bundle looks great for the most part as far as my limited understanding foes, but I'm hesitant about the Warspears. I much prefer the look of the elven models and I have not seen many lists in my brief research that run many or any of the Ogrun units. I am heavily considering swapping for a unit of Hex Hunters in their place if I do end up breaking the bundle. I have seen a lot about Legionnaires being very strong pound for pound, but the Hex Hunters look good too. Am I missing out on a lot by using them instead? I am also considering grabbing 2 each of Shredders and Stingers rather than 4 Shredders. From what I understand, the Shredders are great cleanup and kind of like fire and forget missiles. Can the Stingers or Harriers for that matter pull the same role or am I better off sticking with just Shredders?

My plan was to use the Summer Sale Bundle as a guideline with a few tweaks, or something that looks like the list below. As a little more food for thought, I will probably be transitioning into a pVayl list at some point, and a Spawning Vessel is high on the list of things to acquire next. Will any of these choices be a poor decision for her list as far as synergy? Last but not least, while I know that thewarstore deals in PP products does anyone have any other recommendations as far as online retailers go? I am in the US and while I have my goto guy for GW products I don't know a thing about buying PP. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, I greatly appreciate it and look forward to being an asset to the community once I know what I'm doing.

Models in the battlebox and starter kits only come with the bits to make a Carnivean. You have to get the Dragonspawn kit to get one of those.

And stuff.

as Blaque said, you will need the dragonspawn kit to make a ravagore. the good news is you can magnetize both the starter carni and the second one from the kit to give more options. You could easily play one ravagore and one scythean with the starter and a plastic kit.
Shredders are the best offense of all the lessers but they all have a good use and the different animi can be a boon.
Hex hunters and legionnaires are both solid units but have very different roles. hex hunters can't be a defensive tarpit or combine their attacks like legionaries, but they can chew up infantry and navigate terrain easier.

For retailers try the warstore or miniaturemarket. they both have good discounts and great reputations.
