For 10 points more than a SM tactical squad, I get lots of 24" shooting + force weapons. Sure this is all good, but comparing to other options in the GK codex, why would I take GKSS as troop?
Comparing to other options that is: Acolyte with meltaguns, Draigo's Paladins, ...?

Paladins, Purifiers, Henchmen, all are better when taken with their specific character, wherever it be Draigo for wound-allocating Paladins, Crowe for dirt-cheap Purifiers, or Corteaz for Melta-spam Henchmen. Better than an SM Tac Squad, but comparing across Codexes like that is utterly pointless.

Yes that is what I meant. In what build would GKSS be competitive?

Probably at lower point values where paying the Crowe Tax /Paladins aren't as viable (too few scoring units or whatev).
BTW, don't Strike Squads have Warp Quake? My understanding is that some squads abuse this against Deep Striking lists and against Chaos Daemons it can be used to win on turn 1.
It's a power that's unique to strike squads and it may be worth considering if only for area denial purposes.

yeah, warp quake is an awesome power (put interceptors have it aswell, and their JI for a little bit more). and the fact they can DS is very nice

Here's a thought, why not Deep Strike a Strike Squad with 2 Psycannons, and send your Halberds downfield while your Psycannons lay fire support?

That's 10 guys deep striking at 1D6 (when you are near Servoskull) that will be in star-formation ready for a single shot of plasma to wipe them out. I am not sure that is so hot.

GKSS are also taken when the points force you to take the squad like if you can't fit in more Paladins for whatever reason or something.

I use a GKSS squad in my draigowing at 1500 points.I keep it simple. Just five guys and a psycannon to hold an objective and to have some backfield defense against DS - I don't like getting shot up from behind. You know you can DS GKSS as easily as interceptors right? And they are much cheaper. So since I use skulls I will Ds na dthen run to cover by an objective occasionally. Depends on the opponent and the deployment I'm facing. They have threir uses and an extra psycannon is never a bad thing. Just keep the squad cheap. They are not built for cc so don't stick halberds and falchions on them. I don't even take a hammer.

10 man squads with the Psycannons and the S5 SB upgrade are pretty good. Reasonably durable scoring and good fire support.

1) They're cheap, and are just as survivable as Purifiers.
2) Very point efficient shooting when compared to other options
3) Don't have to pay a character tax just to take them as troops/scoring
4) Which means you have more choice with your HQ slots
If I were to play GK (I've messed around on Vassal) I would try out a "Horde-ish" style list with just loads of Strikes on foot with Psybolt, a Daemonhammer, and 2 Psycannons. Get to mid field and then just pew pew. If I out assault my opponent then I can close in while keeping maximum firepower, or just kite away if I'm facing a dedicated CC unit.

Why not Deep Strike behind their transports and Psycannon/StormBolter their rear armor?
It's something Purifiers can't do.

I generally play strike squads as mobile objective getters. Keep them in reserve and deep strike them away from the action on an objective. It's also good to have the option to warp quake in your army on the off chance you come up against a drop pod or daemon army.
The only way I have taken them so far is as a 5 man squad with a psycannon. They make a good grot squad that can still threaten armor and lay down some light fire at 24"

I give the Justicar a Daemon-Hammer and just upgrade to the Psilencer.
Why the Psilencer you will ask? For the 6 or 12 shots of course.
-But its is AP-: Mostly I fight Chaos Marines, Orks and Nids so in an odd way the AP- has no effect either way.
-But is a Heavy: I tend to use them to hold Objectives so I am not going to move a lot anyways.
I have been using a pair of Psilencers with my Paladin Squad and it has turned out to be a very effective weapon, especially after making it a Mastercraft. I just wish I could MC them in my Terminator and Strike Squads.
