Hello there,

I had a small battle today (450 points) of Marines vs. Orks. A few doubts popped in, and I was wondering if someone can enlighten me.

I had a 15-ish mob of Orks, with Nob and Warboss, assault two Space Marine Combat Squads. Because of positioning, the Nob and the Warboss ended up facing a six-man squad (with vet sarge and Chapter Master) with a couple other orks. The other combat squad was engaged by the rest of the mob.

I totalled the six-man squad thanks to the big guys, but the other assault went badly for the boyz, as they killed none and three died. I made the leadership roll and passed (since I lost by 3 wounds, I rolled vs the Warboss's Ld and passed with a six), but how do you work this out? Do I treat them as different assaults, since they were different squads, or is it resolved as a single assault?
Thanks!

The end result of a multi-assault is applied to each unit that helped.

If you killed 6 marines, but lost 3 orks, then you won combat by 3, meaning both assault marine squads need a ld-3 check or if fearless 3 armor saves.

It is treated as a single assault. SInce your Orks passed their Leadership test, both sides have to pile in.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

From the description it sounded like the Orks won the combat (6 to 3?).
Also the Orks should have been Fearless (sounds like there were still 12 Orks left - Mob Rule).

You may want to re-read page 41 of the rulebook.

Like grendel083 said, it sounds like you won this combat, the Marines should of taken the Morale test at -3, not you. And if you did, in fact, lose the combat, you should of been fearless thanks to Mob rule.

Thanks for the answers. We were in some hurry and distracted because of a) Portugal - Germany, b) a friend of mine had some work to do after the game, c) my brother had to catch the metro. Since I didn't keep the rulebook with me, I had some doubts. Much appreciated!

I would also like to point out that victory is by wounds not killed models. So since the captain or whatever should have been good for at least 2 you really won the assault.

By the way, how's that handled with instant death? My Warboss's PK went right through his face and Iron Halo, and he had 3 wounds... single wound for combat resolution, or three?
