Numberless Necron Warrior
Beyond the veil of light and dark...

I'm hoping to go to a tournament in late June and it's my first one. I know almost nothing about tournaments so I was wondering if there's some sort of tournament etiquette or something?

Don't be a douchebag.
Bring multiple copies of your army lists. Printed ones. No one likes a hand written copy.
Make sure to abide by the rules of the tournament. Have your army be WYSIWYG and abide by any painting requirements.
Look at the experience as a way to meet new players and hopefully face armies you've never faced before. That's always my goal at tournaments.

Went to my first in March going to my second next saturday! They are so much fun you're going to have a great time and like what was said above bring multiple copies of your list, bring a rulebook (just incase) obviously your codex, and have a great time! Also know the rules and if you can read the tournament rules for the scenarios before you play to give you a leg up. Have a great time

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels. To confront us is to die, and death is my remit, my reality, my unbounded domain. I have known death, and defeated it, claimed it as my own. To my cost, to my strength, death is my one gift to bestow, and I am nothing if not generous. |

Firstly - go with the right attitude. You're hopefully going to play some games against new people, with interesting and great looking armies, and wil enjoy each game for itself. Thats all you really need to have a blast at tournaments. If you're a nice guy to play against, take each game as it comes and not focusing on overall standings, you should have a great time
If you come up against a bad sport opponent, try to grin and bear through it. You get a few people who will see the game against you as a means to an end - winning the tournament - and not there to actually enjoy the games, which is sad but happens. All you can do is be as nice as you can to them, and try to enjoy the game as much as you can.
lastly - try to give and take in the games. If you're playing 3 or 4 games in a day, you are likely to make some mistakes yourself - and so is your opponent. I tend to allow a couple of "mulligans" - when people forget to declare all the obvious charges and start to resolve one, i'll let them push the others into combat. I dont want to win because my opponents feeling a little tired, i want to beat them because i out-generaled them Usually this gets returned, but if it doesnt its ok - and obviously you can decide when youve given enough!
Enjoy them - i go to a few a year, occasionally getin the top 10, but always have a great laugh.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to win any games. If I win one, I'll be ecstatic.

My friend went to a tourney yesterday planning to lose all his games but hopefully not end up in dead last, he won all his matches and got 2nd place because his army wasn't painted nearly as nicely as the person who got first place. So it's fine to expect not to win but just do your best.

Since 6th edition is being released on the 23, will the tournament use 6th edition rules?

Probably not just because most of the TOs wont have time to become familiar with the rules by then, best way to find out for sure would be to ask the people organizing the tournament.

6th ed is NOT being released on the 23rd. That is the date preorders go up, as WD is out. Likely to be a 2 week period.
DR - I always hope to come out level. So in a 3 game tourney a Win, a Loss and a Draw is enough for me. If i do better, great, if i do worse, no biggie. So much of a tournament comes down to luck of the draw - you can come up against your nemesis army first round, and get spanked, or you can come up against the one you always do well against. Assuming the tournament uses modified swiss pairings, where top player faces 2nd player each round (after the first) you should hopefuly find a good level
Good luck!
