Do the games day tickets still come with the miniature? I've heard this year the £30 is the event only and you have to buy your mini seperate!!!???

... Without sounding like a turd... Yet another gouge! Price used to cover your model... Maybe there will be something ultra cool there...?? Or a swag bag like they used to!

Are people actually guaranteed a figure if they buy a ticket, or will be be a first-come-first-served deal?

Never been to a GD so please the follks that have been there before can you explain to me what the 30 quid covers? What interesting things should I look for If I go there?

To me, it's £30 is a bit steep, but it's a day out with the friends and I enjoy it.

Since I'm more of a paint/conversion kinda guy, I absolutely adore looking at all the golden demon entries, the mini's look a hundred times better than on a PC screen or magazine page. The armies on parade presentations are fantastic too.

You get the chance do build a few minis/scenery as there are several rectangular-shaped table layouts, which you queue for about half an hour for a seat and then you can build to your heart's content with the sprues that they dish out.

Forgeworld's stands are pretty unique, you get to see some great dioramas and often new/upcoming stuff previously not seen.

There are also some PC's (iirc) at which you can play some GW-related video games, but they don't really interest me much, so I don't have a great deal to say lol.

From the 'shop' area you can buy pretty much every current GW model, and forgeworld have a huge stall there too. Black library books and other things like posters were there last time.

If you're into gaming there are hundreds of gaming tables for LotR, WHFB, and WH40k not to mention other games such as aeronautica imperialis (sp?), dreadfleet, and other custom ones (last year or the one before there was an ork game based solely on flyers using custom-built ork contraptions which was pretty cool).

They also have a lot of the design team there so you can pick their brains about the upcoming greens and 2:1s. Also the 'eavy metal team are there to help with painting techniques.

All in all, it's pretty good, I would recommend viewing the GD entries, and AoP as those are my favourite parts, but it's up to personal taste in the end. It's also a lot better if you have friends to go with, and for love of god bring you're own food! The food prices at the NEC are extortionate (and not that all tasty either).

Before I forget you can also buy the event-only forgeworld/GW minis which sell for a fortune on flea-bay!

If you can make sense of all that, great! Any questions just ask!

Thanks a lot for the tips, I apreciate them.

Like you I'm mostly a modeller so I believe the only thing luring me there would be the Golden demon and i'm not really sure if the 30 plus travelling from essex to birmingham would not be way to expensive for just that... and I would be travelling alone I believe that journey would cost me around 65 ish. ouch!

Is there free goodies or deep discounts there? And specialist games?

They had a small selection of specialist stuff, but necromunda gangs were about £50!!

I've been to every games day since 2003 and a few scattered before then and they just don't have the same vibe anymore. Lately I've become very worried that my favourite games company is loosing its way...

Let's see what this year brings! The only real reason I'm going this year is to get the GD model. I started in 2nd ed and it brings back good memories!!

Fingers crossed for a quality event this year!

Aren't they renting out more halls this year? I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's going to be twice as big as last year!

Also Navarro, you could check with your local GW to see if they are running a coach to Gamesday. The one here in hereford does for I think around £5 extra (on top of the ticket fee). It's worth a try as long as you don't mind sharing a bus with, you know, noisy kids and stuff Plus it's a good way to meet fellow gamers near you. You're only restricted by the times though.

Used the coach every year... It's actually really good! Annoying kids aside, a three hour drive to birmingham flys by and when your knackered after the event you can put your feet up!

I just got my lanyard, correct sized holder and some tickets for a BBQ the day before and a swag bag ticket. When they first sent out the tickets, they only sent the ticket itself and a holder for it that was too small so they sent out an email saying they would fix the issue. They did send the correct size and I'm pretty pumped about the swag bag.

You had to by the Mini last year, no reason why that's going to change.

Yeah, I got my official ticket and lanyard and all that today, and there is a coupon for a grab bag. Who knows what will be in there, but I doubt it will be any minis. But they are giving SOMETHING away.

Are we talking about the same Games Day?

Last year there was only about 15-20 gaming tables being run in a demo jump in / jump out mode, and that was only for the big 3.

First come first served, though there will probably be plenty.

The rationale for the seperate mini is that you can chose not to take one and save money, or you can take multiple ones which they seem to encourage. One of the reps was telling me that someone bought a whole tray (~50 minis) so I could easily take 2/3.

Nope. Full retail. No specialist games, and only some direct order stuff. The big draws are Forgeworld without shipping costs, the event only minis and stuff like Fantasy Flight Games.

Edit: Didn't realise this thread was about last years games day, whoops!

You guys in the states get lanyards and grab bags? Last games day I got a grab bag in the UK was when the Tau first appeared! Never seen a lanyard either.
