So I just started playing as grey knights. So far I've only played a few 400 point matches. At my local gaming store there is also another grey knight newb and he was using a strike squad of 6 with 2 psycannons. When I told him he needed a full 10 to get the second psycannon he said the guy running the store told him once he started the next set of 5 the war gear options are open. I'm almost 100% positive that's wrong, but I'd like to be sure. Here's the exact wording from the codex.

For every five models in the squad, one grey knight may replace his storm bolter and nemesis force sword with one of the following. Incinerator, psilencer, or psycannon.

My take is you have to complete the 5 in order to have that option. Am I wrong?

He is entirely wrong.

If you have 6 models then you only have 1 set of 5 models, with one remainder, meaning you dont have 2 sets of 5 models, meaning you dont have 2 psycannon

Thanks for the quick response. I figured that because if it was his way it would probably say if you have more than 5 or for every 1 to 5. I thought it was pretty exact and straight forward lol.

It's simple stuff like this that gets missed all the time. You needn't worry about asking the question.

Yes, you have to have 5 guys per 1 cannon.
