So I am almost done basing my company and I should be starting to paint sometime this week.
I was wondering how people differentiate their squads and such on the field. I was thinking about putting small markings that would be easy to see on the back of the bases, maybe something like that:
Platoon 1: All have the back edge of the base painted red.
Squad 1: one white line in the center
Squad 2: two white lines
Squad 3: three white lines
Platoon 2: All have the back edge of the base painted blue
Squad 1: one white line in the center
Squad 2: two white lines
Squad 3: three white lines.
Not distracting, no. But you don't really need to get that in-depth.
For me, each platoon has a particular color tab on the back of the base. Red, blue, grey, purple-grey, yellow, etc. It helps when platoons and teams start getting jumbled.

Would not this preclude experiments with mixing and matching different lists? For example, let's say I have two platoons with 3 squads each (6 stands). After some gaming experience, I decide to take support unit (let's say combat attachment) and realise that I don't really need to put all 6 stands now, but can instead only field 4, maybe take two stands away from the second platoon and field a new third platoon with 2 squads made by stands taken from the other two. If they are all marked differently, it might get confusing, or it is best to paint the new markings over?
Looking to trade away 15mm Forged in Battle Pumas (still in the box).
