I had a friend who played in a tournament this past weekend. He really liked his first opponent's list, so he made it up from memory in Army Builder.

His opponent may have been over 200 points. He's still trying to get an official list.

However, his query to the TO went like this: Hey, my first round opponent may have been over points. TO: I threw the lists away so I can't check them. It would not have affected the outcome anyway.

I don't know about you, but to me, it would have affected the outcome for my friend...he might have won his first game, and had a different matchup second round etc.

When you pay 20 bucks to enter, and travel an hour, and find out you were cheated....well to me it seems lame not to at least offer to verify and then recompense the tournament fee, or provide a credit to the next tournament at that venue.

What are your thoughts on a player who finds out he's been cheated ( note, we're still trying to verify it, so we are not accusing anyone etc) and what should a TO do?

While I do not condone cheating, you can not go back a day later and change results. What the TO should have done is checked all list that day. Apparently he did not, or your friend misremembered something.

Either way, once it is over it's too late. Of course the TO should talk with the accused and see if the list was legal or not. Then it is a mater of banning for x events, double and tripple check the list at a tournament for future events.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

I feel like 200 points is easy to spot to most players. I am surprised no one all day whow as familiar with the list saw something was up.

If it was, say, 10-20 points over then yeah, I can see his point, but 200 points, almost enough for an additional Land Raider or Terminator Squad, he seemed like a bit of a jerk to dismiss your friend like that "oh it doesn't matter, you would have lost either way". TO's should verify lists in advance, but in his defence, it would have been better for your friend to bring up the query at the tournament (had he known then) rather than asking the TO after the event had finished.

Explain to the TO that neither of you will be returning for events unless a better system to verify lists are put in place. To just dismiss it as nothing is a horrible attitude for a TO.

That said, getting this info after the event is over, there isn't much you can do except get it right next time... which the TO didn't seem to inspire much confidence in.

The point isn't to change the results. The point is the actions and reactions of the TO. They hold an event, there needs to be quality control.

As a TO, for me, it works like this, everyone signs up and turns in thier list by no later the night prior. Then not only do I know how many tables I need to set up, but have actual time to check lists and double check them if need be.

Then before the Tournament actually begins, I inform players whos lists may be over points or illegal for whatever reason that they need to adjut it and they have so much time before the first game to fix it and for me to check over.

I used to check lists day of, but since if there are odd numbers, I have to also play as a ringer, so that was too crazy.

Long and short of it, this situation just should not happen. If some numbers slipped by the TO, then concerns should be brought forward asap, day off, preferrably during the game in question.

Here's the problem with this type of post:

It's second/third hand, and you're paraphrazing what two other people said, and adding an opinion.

Not knowing how the TO phrased things, make it a bit tough to have any opinion at all on the situation. It could range from

"Sorry, but at this point i can't change anything"
to
"Piss off, I tossed them and don't care"

Whatever the truth is, the tournament is over, and know one has a go-back machine. Best you can do is make sure the list gets checked ahead of time, next tournament.

Why didn't your friend check the guys list at the tournament? That's the time to do it, and get it taken care of.
