Hello! I am in need of your help fellow Dakkarites. I have pre-ordered the new Forgeworld Space Marine Commander & Standard Bearer, the first Marine models I've purchased in years. My intention is to build and paint them, as well as maybe some more Marines in the future, as a more serious Saxon/Englisc flavored force compared to the oh-so-silly Space Wolves (in my opinion). These are the two models;

My intention with these two is to put round shields on them, hanging over their shoulders, but I'm being very specific. The shields can not be of the Greek style, such as the 'hoplite' shields, as these are only practical in formations, not individually because of how they work*. The shields must be of the c7-c11 style with a shield boss for the central grip;

Ignore the colours/pattern, I will be doing my own thing with that, but for the general style of shield I want this represents it. I've been through the links thread in this part of the forum, checking numerous sites for shields but all I can find are either nasty little things masquerading as shields or those of the Greek style, as well as quite a number of Persian & Roman shields. I have, of course, check the Chaos Marauder shields but my complaint with those is that they are too 'worn' before they've even been used in some cases - I would not have my commander ready to go to battle with half the hide covering of his shield falling off!

SO!, by now you will most likely have guessed the question but I'll ask it anyway. Can anyone please direct me to somewhere where I can find what the sort of shield I've linked in 28mm/30mm scale?

Thank you very much for your time Ladies & Gentlemen!

*These sorts of shields strap on to the arm so that when presented across the body they half-cover yourself and the rest covers the man to your left. Thus the shields overlap and you protect the fellow next to you as well as yourself. However if the formation breaks up then you can not easily cover your right hand side - which is a death sentece, really. Hence why I won't be going for those sorts of shields on Astartes.

Have you considered 25mm bases? If you don't like the edge you can always trim them flat.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

I don't think the 25mm base will serve my purpose on this but thank you for the suggestion.

I have got a lead on this now, thanks to a fellow user, so we'll see how that goes.

Here's what my Google-ing has added to your epic:
Watch the scaling, I'm unsure of the 2nd and 3rd options. Paulson Games is reliable though.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I'll second the WGF shields - they appear to be exactly what you're looking for. Warlord Games have some similar ones as well.

I think all SAGA compatible shields will work - check the Gripping beast miniatures - Viking, Welsh, Saxon warbands. Alternatively, some the WFB Chaos Marauder shields are useful, but You have to file down the Chaos iconography. I know Your pain, since I was looking for these a couple of years ago to decorate my Space Wolves Rhinos.

Looking to trade away 15mm Forged in Battle Pumas (still in the box).

The TWC kit also has round shields. It needs some converting though if you want to "de-wolf" them.

Thanks for your replies chaps! I greatly appreciate your input and thank you for your time & suggestions.

@Fenrir1997: The first two you'd linked me I had spotted but discarded - I wasn't sure the metal ones would be big enough (plus no rim) and the resin ones were without bosses and the rims were not quite right. Third ones were indeed spot on but I'm a little concerned about the size - Because they'd be going on 28mm 'Heroic' Astartes models they might end up looking a bit too small - more like the 7'/8' Astartes is carrying a small 3' shield.

@CaintheHunter: When I'd decided on the Saxon/Dane/Englisc theme I delved into my bits box because I have a load of Saxon þegn miniatures who come with round shields - but being 'true' 28mm they're far too small to be a convincing shield for a Space Marine.
The Marauder shields could do the job at a pinch but they're too shabby for a Space Marine commander - there is one blank shield I considered but the hide is falling off.

@HeartSerenade: I did have a nosey at the TWC shields but I rejected them because of their shape & design - they're not particularly 'Saxon/Dane' looking - perhaps for a c15/c16 buckler they'd do the job but I don't think they'd look right for what I'm trying to achieve.

The shields I'm currrently looking at purchasing come from Red Box Games which are absolutely perfect for my intentions - many thanks to a forum member who pointed me in their direction. Currently passing emails back & forward with them and it looks like they're happy to sell me a load of shields individually! An example image;
