Subject: Looking to get into Hordes

I've been looking to get into Hordes to take advantage of the summer sale, but I'm undecided on the army. I really like the aesthetics of both the Trollbloods and the Circle of Orboros, and in WH40k i prefer hard hitting close combat play. I like the survivability of the trollbloods but I was hoping someone could give me a clue as to which of the Hordes armies is easiest to get into.

Alright, so, as has been said to basically everyone else, there is no 'easiest to get into' or 'best' or 'starter' faction in Warmachine/Hordes. This isn't 40k where people where people will go, 'Oh, [insert color] Space Marines, for sure!'. You said you like the look of trollbloods, you prefer hard hitting close combat (which is really the basis of WM/H), and you like the survivability of the trolls. I think you've got your faction picked.

Do you have an active group of people at your local gaming club? I'm new but personally I'd grab some trollbloods and their book, borrow someones rulebook then when the hordes 2player box comes out in a couple months grab that or split it with someone for the rule book and circle, so you will start with 2-3 armies and go from there.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Thanks a lot for the input. The second line is really making me even more interested. What's putting me off WH40k slightly is the fact that many "unique" ideas for armies fall flat compared to cookie cutter builds. Is it true that this isn't as much of a problem in WM/H?
I'm probably gonna buy the summer deal bundle for Trollbloods and just go for it. Making this army:
Madrak Ironhide, Thornwood Chieftain Warlock
2 Troll Impaler Light Warbeasts
Troll Axer Light Warbeast
Fell Caller Hero
Whelps x5
Runebearer
Trollkin Fennblades x10
I don't know a lot about the rules, but reading all there is to read about those models I think I'd enjoy how it plays.

Well, as to 'cookie cutter builds' - you'll see in WM/H that some combinations just work better with others. Some Wardudes will prefer Warnouns, while others want infantry, and some will want a balance. Some will want heavy infantry, some will want light, some can use any. And that's the nice thing about WM/H - when you change your Wardude, everything about your force changes.
Now, I'm a Skorne guy myself. But here's a breakdown from the Trollbloods community:
'pMadrak: decent warlock, you will use him on occasion, not a bad buy
Axer: Really doesn't make it into 90% of the lists you will play. If you get Gunny, he will make it into 0% of the list gunny runs most likely
Impaler: You want 1 for sure. The second is just kind of hanging out. I think I have never used 2 impalers outside of a battlebox game.
Rune Bearer: Not bad, and he can really help Gunny from being fury starved.
Fell Caller: Great, every trollblood player needs one.
Whelps: very hand for walking ranged beasts out of melee, then healing the damage from the free strikes.
Fennblades: A great jam and screening unit, will work great as the frontline for Gunnbjorn.'
This is in reply to someone asking whether to switch Madrak1 for Gunnbjorn.
