Been working on Tau recently. Have some conversions I would like to share. Tell me what you think. I have constant updates on my blog NoTurtlesAllowed@blogspot.com







This Hammerhead counts as was made from 2 Sky Rays, 2 Hammerhead Weapon Sprues, a box of Stealth suits, 2 Piranhas, a set of Dread Knight feet, and countless Tau bits. The base is exactly the shape of a Hammerhead Hull.






These models were extensively converted. They have all been repositioned to hold the Rail Gun like an assault rifle. The one in the middle has been given a "mohawk" using the sensor spine from the Tau vehicle sprue to represent a drone controller.

The broadsides have also had their legs repositioned for a more dynamic firing stance. The SMS systems are made from the Hammerhead SMS with gun drone sensors on top. I also used the FW marker lights to represent Target Locks.

Lastly, the Shield Drones are converted from regular gun drones with extra sensor spines and a disruption pod.

Looks good, but the legs on the super-battlesuit look far too spindly and thin at the moment, they could use some bulking out.

When I was building him, I felt that might be an issue. However, I like the overall look of them thin because it makes him look agile, and with the large knee/thigh areas, I feel he mimics the "Chicken Leg" look of the regular battlesuits.

That Hammerhead thingy looks amazing!

Personally, I'm not a big fan, but that's some great conversion work. Maybe it I saw it painted up, it might change my mind a bit, but I've never really been a fan of the gigantic Tau walkers. I just feel that if the Tau were to have a Titan equivalent, it would be a superheavy grav tank or something like that. I'm just not seeing the Tau field a walker larger than the XV9 battlesuits. I dunno...just isn't hitting that Tau aesthetic IMHO. But, like I said, great converting work!

Outstanding conversion would love to see a guide on how you went about it!

I hear ya. Its not supposed to be a Titan though. I figure the Tau would experiment with different war engines, so I see it as just an experimental armor, not a mass produced vehicle.

And the intent was to bring a little Gundam to the Tau army. To make the Amine army more Anime

I don't know how much I like the rail gun rifles, but the big conversion looks great, it's a great analogue to the super heavies of other races.

My brother, Ken from Next Level Painting(http://www.nextlevel...g.blogspot.com/) sent a project my way recently; to build a Thunder Hawk and a flight stand for it. I zealously took on the project, as the Thunder Hawk is the Forge World model I covet the most. It has always been my dream to have 1 or even more. A sad dream that is outside of reality as a $600+ model is too much for my finances.

These 2 Pics show the fuselage being formed. The model was very warped, and required several dips in near boiling water to straighten out the pieces





In these 2 pics, you can see the the Wings and Landing Gear being attached





In these last 2, the Thunder Hawk sits under its own weight on its landing gear. The bulk of the model is done at this point. Only the minor stuff like guns and doors remain. BTW it came with no instructions.

And this is why I'll never own a Forgeworld Thunderhawk. I can't even imagine spending $650 on a model and not getting anywhere near $650 worth of product. Having to be an advanced modeler to assemble it is one thing. The thing needs to at least fit together out of the bag. Anything less is absolutely unacceptable. FW's QA is unforgivable at best, downright insulting at worst.

How much did it cost to do the base and plastic pole?

pole was 12 bucks, the wood was like 6 but the bits to do it and hardware were like 20. Plus more for what goes on it next

Nice work on reposing the kroot. I always felt they needed a bit more dynamic models. And great job on the thunderhawk there nice way to hide the base of the pole inside the building

I would like to say I have not forgotten or slowed down on these projects. I live in Woodland Park Colorado and have been evacuated due to the Waldo Canyon Fire. I do not know if or when my next update will be. The fire is dangerously close to my home.

How did you mount the Hawk onto the pole, im looking to do the same for mine. can you take a pic of the underside of it showing the mounting point? Cheers

I can give you a description ATM. Pictures are not possible right now.

The rod is a 1" acrylic rod. I drill a 1" hole under the Thawk and then I drilled into the rod and inserted brass rods for the Thawk to sit on. The rod goes into it roughly 2"
