Subject: What WoC Lord/Hero should I use

Powerful Chaos Warrior

Ok I now have my WoC army pretty much set in the direction I am going. Now I do have a Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord and a Nurgle Lord that I have painted up. I guess my question is what is a good Lord/Hero to use to command my Army. I have a back story fluff that I am building for my army but I just would like some suggestions on which model I should get. I really like the Lord on the Manticore model, but I have read some dissenting articles about it's survivability. I also like the Archaon model but since he is a named I don't know if I want him for my command. I do like the Lord on the daemonic mount... but am unsure what really to do. Please any suggestions would be helpful. Also are Heroes really worth bringing in for points such as Wulfrik, Sigvald, or even the unnamed champions and other unnamed heroes I like the models but am curious if anyone uses them in actual game play?

IMHO, Wulfrik is great, but many will advice Festus.
Now, for a lord, I think your sorcerer lord is great.
A Lord could be fine too, and I find one with MoK awsome. as for Archaon, he is a bit pricy, isn't he?
Sigvald or Valkia for named lords I say.
Unnamed heroes, by wich you probably mean exalted heroes and sorcerers, are great.
dont forget to bring a BSB!

Chaos characters are phenomenal. Just pick one and it will roll face. This is what you will tend to hear. NOT necessarily true. Make sure you get your point's worth.
Lords are great. There are a few different lord builds I have had some real success with. In combat I use:
mark of tzeentch
enchanted shield
dawnstone
helm of many eyes
sword of anti-heroes
breath weapon gift
The sword of anti heroes when your big block is against one of theirs will give usually +2A and +2S so you're looking at 7 attacks at S7 always striking first. If they do manage to come back at you you still have a 2 up rerollable followed by a 6 up after they get through WS8 and t5. Also consider warshrines. Imagine the same guy T6 with a 3 up ward.
WoC heroes in my experience aren't generally worth the points. I'd rather have more warriors. This of course discluding the BSB which is extremely useful. If you do choose to use heroes consider Throgg. He is amazing even if you aren't rocking trolls for support.
For 175 pts you get a WS5, S6, T5, W4, regen, a stomp, a beast vomit attack, as well as improved leadership and rerolls for your dogs and monsters. He may only be I2, but it's more than worth the sacrifice. I'd take him still at 225 pts.
If you are riding with a combat lord as opposed to a sorcerer lord you will need to have casty heroic support for him. If you have the sorc lord, you don't need combat heroes to supplement.
You need to have infernal puppet on one of your characters. This is not an option =)
Whatever you read about the manticore is true. Terrible choice. You will take one of the most survivable lord choices in the game (the chaos lord) and make him one of the least survivable.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Sigvald was better in 7th when he walked through everything openly. Trees used to be nearly impassible for infantry who couldn't march through them and moved at half speed (2 inches a turn). Also Archaon is a no go. Never use him. He is overcosted by about 200 pts.

Ok so if I do get the Manticore model it should be for looks not playability...sound advice. Thanks for the help...I think for now I will get my Lord on the Daemonic Mount and maybe get a couple of heroes...I still think rocking my Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord will be an awesome choice... and then pick up a couple of heroes to back him along with my Warrior phalanx and my cavalry of knights and Marauder Horsemen I have coming... I do have about 30 marauders I still need to finish and figure out how to add them into my fluff. Wulfrik might become an option at that point

Remember, according to the FAQ the leadreship banner can pump your lords leadership up 1 if he is in the same unit as he. As the fighting lord often is not worth it, you can get LS 9 with the banner bearer.
(No luck for a daemonlord.)

I haven't quite finished it yet but my Lord is a follower of Tzeentch and he is the son of a Kurgan High Councilman and a Brettonian slave woman. He is the youngest son of the chieftain and his name is Keir he was born under the Tzeentch moon. He was always pushed aside and told by his older siblings he would never aspire to the greatness of being a Warrior. He found himself drawn to the Horsemen of the Marauders and then one day while tending to them he heard a noise behind him and turned to see his first Chaos Knight and immediately knew he wanted to be chosen by the gods to ride among the great Knights of the gods. He being a boy opened his mouth to his siblings and told them of his desire, they laughed at him, scorned him, and told him it would never be. When Keir turned the age when all the lads go and choose their destiny before the council he strode forth in confidence and told the council his desire the room erupted in laughter much to the dismay of of his father. Later that night when his father got home his father drug him to the back side of the tent and beat him soundly and told to not to ever come back. He looked around in the night and fled into the darkness alone praying to the gods they would just kill him. In the darkness is where he was found by a miserly old man with a crooked back and twisted features. Under the guidance of the old man he learned not only how survive in the harsh lands of the north but also that he had a knack for riding the only gift from his mother, he also learned the dark magics of the gods and he knew in time he would have to go back and face his father and brothers. He soon left his old mentor with the wings of Tzeentch watching over him and he went out to find the what kind of warrior he was to become. After wandering for many a night fighting Trolls, and other creatures of the winter north he found the halls of the Chaos Dwarfs and inside the hell forges to make his armor. The gnarled old dwarf looked and him and smiled a devilish smile you are bound by the the changes that occur around you and you will bring many changes in your wake. His armor was imprinted in the marks of all the gods but most predominantly in the mark of Tzeentch.
I haven't gotten any further than this.... hoping to finish it shortly.

Not legal on account of him having 2 pieces of magic armour.
I run the 1+ armour 3+ ward save stubborn level 4 and a BSB on horse with the runeshield in a big block o' knights.

Yes. Which means a Warrior hero can confusingly enough wear both a dragonhelm and the helm of many eyes. I guess its the dragonhelm of many eyes...

Thank you Johnny.
Also, Dark Avenger, why the rune shield? For 50 points you could have something really cool? Automatically Appended Next Post: At least I think it's 50 right? Something high. Automatically Appended Next Post: I like your fluff SGrimheart. Good stuff.

Good Stuff thanks for all the advice and I will prolly move my fluff over to the dakka fluff lounge and continue it there. I do think that my lord will either ride or fly into battle with his army but I not sure yet how he will go, but go into battle he will !!!

Chaos lord of tzeentch on disc with crown of command, the shield that lets you ignore the first hit, a 3++ and a halberd is pretty sick. He beats face and is quite survivable. Only downside is a sorc lord is near impossible to have, but you can have lvl 2 tzeentch sorcs with a +3 to cast, so that helps.

Just a Lord with no upgrades- he still gets a bizillion attacks that nobody can save from and nobody can even hit and if we do he just shrugs it off...I er..hmm well now seriously. My friend loves, Valkyeria, I believe is her name and Festus the most. They are two of the best balanced characters IMO in the chaos book. Unfortunately when the new book does come out, it will get nerfed like all the other books have been but it will be brought in line with the other new release books.
